Don't know of many minis being dry sumped, its a hard job!

New pics when its got an MOT, its just had both sills and door steps replaced. Looks mint underneath though

 

You've got a big job on to get the new floor in before friday and back on the road dude, cant wait to see the new engine bay.

What started off as simply removing / replacing the sills has uncovered some deep dark nasty truths about the 'restoration' work that went into this car prior to my ownership.

The sills and door steps, were merely plated over with new panels, so the olds were left to rot away inside, ruining the new panels in 3 years, when if done properly would've lasted 15 easily.

Still now theyre replaced, and the passenger side, with half the floor replaced as well it should last me a lot longer, though i do believe i will be beginning a new project come finding a full-time job

 

I have to grab my camera, if it gets past its MOT!

 

Well the floors in, and i had a nice productive day yester doing all the little jobs.

Side repeaters in the a panels
new ball joints on the front hubs
rear shockers replaced
washer bottle in drivers wheel well

 

Stickeh - is there anything left of the original car?

It's nice when you get all clean, straight metal to work with, isn't it.

 

Erm the subframes are original...i think. haha

But add to that list, new interior,doors, lights, boot, arches, wheels,steering rack,calipers, hubs, it starts to look like, there isnt much left to replaced!

What was bad is that it still had original sills and doorsteps on it...underneath the new panesl, hence the short time it took to rot out... thanks mr bodger previous owner

The plan is to get it road worthy, and spend as little as i can on it now, i've got a small side project to fix (rover p6) and then hopefully start work on a roaddd eaterrr

Does make me laugh though, i might have to change my ball joints each year for mot, but at 9.50 a pair ( so one side) its not breaking the bank. MY rear shocks cost me £19.50 for the pair too!

 

Nice - my old man had one of those in white when I was a kid. Drank petrol like it was going out of fashion... He was fond of saying that you could see the fuel needle drop at the same rate that the speedo needle rose. But that's a V8 for you.

 

Oh i know what i need to ask you, what rear number plate lighting method are you using?

 

Dunno yet. Was toying with some of those LED nuberplate bolts - not the ones that shine directly out, but are reflected back onto the plate.

I have an issue in that the recess for the rear plate on the Gooster is only wide enough (with a little to spare on each side) for a normal euro sized plate (New IVA requirement). It doesn't leave me with much room for the usual lamps you see on other kit cars.

 

Hmmm, see ive got these little 4Led, 3" long strips, x2 at the third and 2/3 points of the plate, but one has had its wired pulled out, and i need to replace them, sharpish, and im struggling thinking what i can pick up tomorrow and replace them with, im almost tempted to use a cold cathode...

 

Ok that drive has woken me up.

Just to fill in the info, stick dropped by a while ago with the mini and fresh MOT, and we went out for a spin. Dang that little car has got some punch and grip. The finishing details need tidying up but thats not important, its got what it needs where it needs it!

Now if you dont mind im off to find a mini! Anyone need a kidney coz im kinda broke!

IT'S F-ING D-DAY! my guess as i post this that the new surprise is currently on the M1 returning to Nottingham around about now. hehe!
