Build Advice Help - Will this build work

Hi all, I am new here, and wondred if anyone could help me out with this

I have put this together on ebuyer, and need to know if it's all compatible...

I have a DVD RW and case, from an old 2004 PC. Would the DVD work in this or would the connections be different? Would a 2004 case acomadate this sort of build also?

Also does anyone know of any cheaper DDR3 RAM? As I'm at the top of my budget. I don't mind it been a bit slower.

The DVD drive will work with that setup (im assuming that the board has at least 1 IDE or 2 SATA's here).

Depends on the case. As long as the case can take ATX boards (or bigger) then its fine. If its a microATX case (like my dell) ull need either a different board or a new case.

You can shop around from different brands to get a cheaper price. If 1333 stuff is cheaper then take that.

Oh and all that stuff will work together. Whats the system going to be used for most of the time?

 

Looks like it'll all work fine together. I would imagine the old DVD is IDE and the ASUS board does indeed support IDE, if it's SATA (newer) then it supports that too.

As dec points out, the only question remaining is the one we can't know the answer to without more details and that is whether the case is big enough.

 

You don't need 600W for that build; you could get away with 400. I'd go for 500W for increased safety margin. Have you got any particular reason for preferring the X4? I've never used one but BiT has always said;

At any rate the graphics card is good, though I would switch the HDD for the Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB, especially if it's cheaper on eBuyer. [EDIT]Nah, eBuyer don't sell it. Nevermind.[/EDIT]

 

PureSilver has raised most of the points that I would have. A 500W PSU would be a good choice, perhaps a 500W Enermax Eco80+ or a Corsair VX550. A Corsair 450HX is also worth a look.

I would also suggest parting with an extra £20 and getting a SATA DVD. You will get better performance and have a much tidier and less obtrusive connector.

 

He's specified a Phenom II in the write-up not an Athlon.

2 comments, did the WD drive for a Samsung F3, and for that price of PSU you can get a BeQuiet - 480W will still be enough for your system; link PSU ; link Hard Drive

 

To be safe you might want to see how long the video card is. If it goes past the edge of the mother board there could be problems. I never hurts to mesure something.

 

I know this may throw a spanner in the works but for £313.31 off ebuyer u can get a gigabyte p55 mobo, intel corei5 750 and 4gb of OCZ 1600mhz ddr3. For the sake of an extra £50 id say that is a far better build. IMO
