Has anyone ever modded an old CRT into a pc a'la imac g3? I'm thinking of finding a faulty 19" CRT, removing the guts and fitting an appropriate sized LCD in the frame, with a decent pc behind it. Does anyone know of any examples?
19" CRT's are huge .... you must be bonkers !! ... but you're right ... it seems you're not the first person of such a mind .... it has been done before. I think your Google-fu needs work ... a quick search for "CRT computer mod on google turned up this top of the list: It seems he is doing what you plan .. though the video's are awful. I might be fun to try and build a PC into a iMac G3 system, just as a lot of people have used the Mac Pro for their PC systems.
Pulling apart crt monitors can be very dangerous, make sure you know what you're doing before you go hacking one apart.
I agree, the cathode/anode can still have enough charge left in them to blow your brains out (at least enough to stop your heart).
