As is usually the case, the person with the best qualifications and experience will get over looked for the guy that can talk the most codswallop at the interview.

I would've killed for a job like this a year or two ago, but I'm back at uni for Electronic Engineering, so I've got a decent career lined up now. I probably wouldn't qualify as I haven't got any qualifications or experience, not formal ones anyway.

Like Fordy, I'd probably rather create the hardware than offer tech support for it. Who knows, in a few years I could move out to Taiwan maybe and join some of the staff there (I can dream dammit :p)

I dont wanna seem like an ass or anything. But why is this considered news?
Theres 100's of tech jobs advertised each week. If ASUS has paid you to put this job add in the news section then maybe you should think about having a proper jobs section on here.
You could bring in more revenue for the site and probably more traffic with young hip people like ourselves looking for cool jobs.

Nope, they didn't pay. However, we do get quite a lot of reader mail about getting into the industry, and as this is a junior level position that's, subject wise, very much in the bit-tech area - mobos and gfx - we though it would be of interest.

I always find a positive attitude does wonders for a candidate.

Tell me truthfully, with PM if you do not want to say here but how many people in your workplace have you thought "fcuk me, how the hell did this idiot get this job?"

I have personally had an IT manager who didn't know how to turn his computer on and thats no bullsh1t, things like this should be completely unacceptable yet it happens everywhere, all the time...

To be honest, you don't need to know as much as you think you do. I have done desktop admin/servicedesk roles since I was 17 and at least half the job is how you can talk and how fast you can learn. Manager positions especially, you need to know how to manage IT as a service and not everything about every transistor on a board.

Some times people can get into jobs by blagging it but they won't last long trust me.

There's lots I want to discuss but I don't want to derail the thread with my negativity, let's just say we agree to disagree and good luck to those that do apply, and I sincerely hope the best person for the job gets it :thumb:

If I wasn't so into my university degree and into Mechanical Engineering so much, I'd probably move from Portugal to UK just for that place. We don't born taught so while in there getting to use my knowledge and expertise, also I would learn new things and become more educated on that front. Good luck to everyone applying, be sure to give us a heads-up to whom got the job and how's eveyrthing at the new place.

I can assure Sazbard that talking the talk isn't going to be enough - You will definitely have to walk the walk.
