First off. GREAT IDEA. But i personally wouldn't have cut the 24 pin since your always going to use it. other then that this is a quality mod and i wouldn't mind doing it to an old psu. It's just to flashy with the acrylic and fan grill etc, i like plain psu. still love the idea.

Do you have any stability or current issues? Any ripples?

do u think that making a modular PSU will help the cause of powering LEDs and lighting and such?
in my mod i plan to either use 2 PSUs, one for components and one for LEDs, lighting, fans, etc, or to use one PSU and then make a junction box for powering other things...which is a better option?

I think i'm going to buy a premade modular PSU for my next machine, if I had the balls to mess with this kind of stuff i'm sure i'd use this guide. :jawdrop:

Another one for the current rating on DB25. They are signal connectors only.

nice work! I like the 4pin connectors and the Plexi cover. My only quibbles are the somewhat sloppy sleeving and heatshrinking on the cables themselves and that 24pin connector (DB25).
I did a quick google, and AC ryan sells both the male and female versions of the ATX 24pin connector (aka: EPS12V, ATX-GES) I'm sure you could find them elsewhere as well, of course.

Oops... aided and abetted ancient thread revival.

Awesome mod which I am definitely going to have a go at.
I do have one worry though, is there likely to be any residual charge left inside the PSU when you take it apart?
Anything you should do your best not to touch etc?

I've got an old one that's not been powered up in probably 2 years now, it's been sat in an old case gathering dust. I've pulled the casing off, now just worried that if I touch something i'll give myself a new hairstyle!
There's a lot crammed into a small space, it'd be easy to catch something.

Besides the 24-pin scaring the bejesus out of me, that's a CRAZY mod!

    Great job!

Hah, Darth Invader, you ninja'ed me! =)
Been working on the same thing, with the same plugs, but going a bit differently. I'm leaving the Mobo power as-is (read: too lazy to solder all those pins.) But I'm putting the couplers in their own seperate breakout box and using bronze thrust-bearings to give it more 'pop'.
I'm kinda glad to see your PSU had enough room to put it all in the case - good job with the plexi BTW.

About the concerns on the DB25, did you run into any issues with it? (Holy thread revival)

Couldn't you have just opted for a female 24-pin?
