Thanks Bill & Colossous. This part of making the case is simple enough, "make some compartments to shove all the cables". And if just a couple of boxes were involved, then making would almost be as easy as thinking. You've probably noticed the gap between the mobo tray and the fan carrier. I'd like to think this is here for the cable mangement but it's really a product of having to extend the chassis to accommodate the ridiculously long graphics card. But it's perfect to run a channel up for various cables. I was lucky to find this U channel in the sale bin for five bucks, it's painted but I'll get rid of that. After cutting a piece to fit, it goes here. Some cut-outs need to be made for fans etc. The jigsaw blade was too long so I snapped some off with pliers. For the rest of this the actual mobo and power supply need to be used. But first I need to re-tap the mounting holes for M4 screws. The cover is removed only so the metal debris can be cleaned out. There is to be a compartment in front of the PSU so the base of this is first modelled in some plastic sheet I get from work. And then cut from !.6mm sheet. Then a small rear section is made. Only one bend can be made in the bender so some improvising is called for. Here I'm trying for the third time to make this part. The front (or left hand side) of this compartment is a bit tricky as I want it to follow the shape of the lower support, and be of one piece. So a strip of 1.2mm sheet is prepared and put through the slip rollers gradually, increasing the curve each time. The very next bend can't be done in the brake, so some more rigging. The next two bends are able to be done in the brake. So this is what it's supposed to look like, but this part will have to be remade. Some of the bends didn't work out right and the center section is too narrow. I'm not too worried though, I can see that it can be done and I really didn't expect to get it right the first time. I had to include this pic because it features Kevin and Julia in the background. Back soon.
Great build so far! // Sry for like double post, didnt reliase that the account had to be confirmed more than by mail ^^
Each time you update, I just want to see that finished more and more! Please can you pm me some info on that little rounder thing? Thanks and mod on bro!
Love it, it looks awesome. Just wondering where you get your aluminium from, i trying to plan my own build
Amazing work, as ever! Be interested to see what you cover this one with, hope you do some more woodwork! Possibly, we'll meet again in MOTM (and you'l beat me again, no doubt!)
This rouded shape is impressive specially for a first try Im am truly impatient to see this finished.
I guess, the thing I love the most with your way of modding (and I love a lot of things, including mojitos) is how you present it like a thriller, or a photographic exhibition. I explain : each time you make a new update, I wonder "where the hell does he want to go ? What the hell is that strange curve, that bend, that cut ? What color are his shoes today ?" It's a kind of quest : you, and only know, know what you do, and after a long and enigmatic trip, in the end, everything make sens. And I say "of course !" Your modding style is a fluide thriller : each part has its reason to be, each part is usefull, and, the most difficult, each part has its own life. Like in a good movie, you give the filling that if you remove something, it will break the whole harmony and get the work unbalanced. I will quote the movie "Amadeus" and Salieri : And then, later in the movie : That's all I wanted to say. Now that I maid my come out, I have to breathe and take some photos in Paris
Thank you, and welcome to bit-tech. Thanks Krunch. Thanks AnG3L., This little tool is called a mini slip roller. It has two feed rollers that are adjustable for the thickness of the material, and a roller at the back, also adjustable, that does the actual curving. I bought this on ebay and I think it was about A$160. Bigger ones are available but I don't have the space, they also cost considerably more. Thanks oliver. Thanks skip. Thanks, I buy my alu from Action aluminium in Dandenong now. Thanks brinkz. Thanks. I don't think there will be any wood in this one, but I thought that about Cygnus as well. Thanks Fab. Thanks. Haha, thanks Aniki. I also like to read other worklogs where the final design is a surprise. Man you must have a photographic memory to remember those lines. And, I'm also jealous you can just "go out and take some photo's of Paris". sigh. That curved panel was remade and turned out much better. Here you can see there is a small gap where the radius meets the inside edge, but this is only because I made that corner on the base square and won't be seen when in place. To be able to fix this panel, a small fixing block was made. Another will need to be made for the top. It's from 8mm alu so some screws can be used to hold the panel. And at this early stage the fit is quite good. Just for fun I took the base and put it on top to see what it could look like, this doesn't fit properly but it's good to get an impression. OK, that's not bad, but I think I'll take the time to make a different solution just to see if something better can be made. Back soon.
wow this looks amazing, great aluminium work there, makes me want to go and make something out of aluminium for myself
Of course I have a good photographic memory ! (Highly usefull to remember the name of pretty girls in short skirts.) But I also have a good DVD player
