OK, first computer mod project! I started with the Coolermaster Sileo 500 case, which despite the name is a good looking mid-sized case, but I wanted to give it my own personal touch. Im only part way through so far. Hardware specs: CPU: Intel Core i5-750 with Noctua NH-D14, both fans removed RAM: 4GB Corsair XMS3 1333Mhz DDR3 Mobo: Asus P7P55-M HDD: 1TB Seagate DiamondMax (slow) Graphics: Nvidia Quadro FX 580 (512MB) with Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 passive heatsink 450W Unbranded PSU (rubbish) There are two 120mm case fans and the PSU fan, which keeps it cool even with no dedicated CPU fan! I made the classic noob mistake of buying a cheap PSU and its hopeless, several of the voltages are way out of the ATX spec. I intend to upgrade this to a branded modular 500W PSU shortly. The hdd is also pretty poor, and makes a lot of noise, I am planning to add an SSD as a boot drive when the prices drop to something more sensible. Pics of the work done so far: Case before the mods and heatsink upgrades. Case taken apart ready for painting. Starting to spray the case. Outside of the case almost done. Prepping the heatsink for painting. Heatsink after spraying. Some paint got through the tape! Parts put out in the sun to dry off. Power supply cabling all braided up. A green LED in a blue and white colour scheme? I dont think so! Soldering in the new blue LED Bingo! Hard drive rubber mounts. The drive is now quieter, but the head moving about still vibrates through the whole case... Up and running! I am going to make two perspex sides held on with thumbscrews, and turn some sturdy aluminium feet on a lathe. Wiring also needs tidying but I will upgrade the PSU first. Currently both case fans are plugged into the power supply, but I want to connect the rear case fan to the CPU fan header. Unfortunately the CPU fan header is PWM 4 pin, and the fan is 3 pin. I know some Asus boards can be programmed to supply variable voltage instead, does anyone know if this is possibly on the P7P55-M? I have not been able to change it in the bios. Anyway, hope you like the project!
I love the blue and white paint scheme! And your painting is really good it look like the case has been built that way.
glad you like it, feel free to steal! can my pwm header be configured to control a 3 pin fan?? also what are your peoples thoughts on the sides, I was going to just do two pieces of perspex, but will that look too open do you think?
