Could some body just check my spec (in sig) as i'm paranoid my PSU isn't powerful enough. I looked the the Thermaltake Power supply Calculator, but it gives mixed results. :S I just want someone to put my mind to rest, as I don't want it to kamakazi and kill my 1 day old 5870! Thanks!
the supplies nowdays have shut offs.. they won't pop and burn like back in the 90's XD just looked at the specs http://www.coolermaster.nl/psu/powersupply.php?product=32&language=1 your good on the 12 volt rails.. that's what the card is going to pull
yeh dont worry about it killing the comp with the modern shutoffs but if you dont want to risk having a shutoff mabie get something 700w+
I only have a 500w PSU running my overclocked i5 750 and 4870 and I never have any issues with it. Your PSU is more than powerful enough.
As others have said, a 500W PSU would be perfectly adequate for your set up. You could actually quite happily put in a 5970 on that PSU, no need to worry!
you dont need overkill psu these days most ATI cards use less power than there last gen equivlents 5850 uses less power than 4870 and 4890 most id run on a 500 watt is a 5870. 5890 id def upgrade to a 600 watt psu unless your going crossfire you will never really need above 600-700 watt psu max anyone who says otherwise is telling you jokes.
I totally agree with every 1 and whats been said but I'm a believer in to "the much is almost enough" school of thinking, my rig would happily run on a 500w psu but that still did'nt stop me throwing a 750w in it......Maybe I'm just to old school...lol
Your definitely in the safe on this one I get by with a corsair 400w powering a 5850 and an overclocker Althlon x2 240@3.6. The minimum power recommendations of GPU manufacturers are waaaaay off
As long as you have a reasonable wattage (600W+) with a reasonably efficient PSU (not some unbranded £10 for 800W box) you should be fine!
