I hope not, as if that would be "the preferred" standard; monstrous powerconsuming hardware. Where does it end ? 2000watts? 3000watts? 4000watts? Isn't there a moment you think; wow; this is going way out of hand ?

Yeah, maybe when your electric bills start to show enormous figures....that will help.

The big con of this cooler setup is that it doesn't blow the hot air out of the case. Having a fan in the case's side wall is mandatory here. I know what I am talking about: I had once been cooling a HD4870 with a similar AC cooler, and had to add a fan to my case's side wall to keep it from overheating (and since the case didn't have a fan grill in the side, I even had to drill holes in it myself).

SLI GTX480s cost around this much, could we get benches vs that aswell?[/QUOTE]

pointless they would use alot more power and the temp would be alot higher as well prob cook them selves

Other reviews have SLI GTX470's/480's against this, and they score about the same, mostly won by the 470's/480's. Overall, the power draw is lower on the 5970, temps are lower but, it is louder (subjective analysis). It costs less than than the 480's, but more than the 470's. (Taken from hexus, not my material.)

They won't. The temps of a GTX480 in Tri SLI was only 3 deg more than a lone card.

So that's 103 as opposed to the ice cold 100 degrees they normally run at?

    +1

There are people on these boards who are fine with high bills and extreme performance.

Finally something worthy to replace my 4870x2!

If I can get my hands on two, ill post the benchmarks.

Also to the BT reviewers, what is with testing gpus at ultra-low resolutions like 1,680 x 1,050. Your time would have been better spent hooking up 3 27" and 3 30" monitors in an Eyefinity setup, THAT is the exact reason this wonderful Beast has 4Gb of ram. So do a follow up review with eyefinity.

1100$ is a reasonable price point for gear of this level, I do hope the run is more than 1000 units though.

I - for one - use 1680 x 1050, but I follow you. I probably won't be gaming with a card like this at such a low resolution.

    Designed?

I'm sure if Nvidia could've made them run cooler, they'd be running cooler. The high power consumption (and thus high heat output) are the main cons of the Fermi series.
