My in laws have just got Netgear DG834Gv5 router which they have hard wired up to their pc(all works fine!)...they also have a notebook which they want to use wireless! Their notebook can see the wireless network and connect to it...but cannot connect to the internet.
The router is not talking back to the notebook, but the notebook is talking to router! The security has been set to wpa2, wpa and disabled...but notebook still connects but no internet!
Does this point towards the router not sending or the notebook not receiving?

Btw pc and notebook both running XP sp3 and notebook was happily connected to wireless BT voyager previously with no probs!

    Thanks for help

Is there any specific software that was installed from the BT Voyager setup? Conflicting software can often cause this kind of issue.

Make sure that the IP address on the notebook is obtained correctly and that the gateway on the notebook is set to the router's IP address.

The router could have DHCP disabled, therefore the device would need a static IP.

do the following and post the results:

    Run > CMD > IPconfig /all

edit: if this isn't the issue then it may be the gateway as blighter said....

The router is connected successfully to a pc with ethernet cable, and when ethernet cable is plugged into notebook everything works fine(internet fine). It is just the wireless internet thats the problem, not the wireless connection!

Is there a different DHCP for wireless and wired?..and notebook been used around the country and abroad, in free wireless hotspots and wire old bt voyager...just not with netgear router!

    Any more ideas?

    Thanks all
