    Thanks everyone :thumb:

    Heres the next update:

Unfortunately when I attempted to weld the PCI back panel to the floor piece this part:

Was way to thin and it expanded and went into a wave pattern under the heat, even though I was heating it slowly with a small flame. So I've decided to get that peice re-made in 2mm sheet, which also ment I had to remove the glue that was holding the PCI slots to the back piece. Here it is after I melted and sanded the glue off:

I was amazed at how strong the glue was, it took 3 hours to remove it all.

Hopefully if I nag the metal bending company enough I might be able to get the new panel tomorrow :D

On a side note, heres the cabling supplies that arrived today:

I wont be using the molex to sata power, I only want the sata ends.

So beautiful work with the aluminum it almost makes me weep.

Also a great example of a good project log. Not too few, not too many good quality photos and a couple of lines of text in between.

    Thanks.

I just had to chime in here to say that you're doing an awesome job. I'm enjoying watching this project and am looking forward to your next update.

Working with aluminum can suck sometimes but you seem to know what you're doing. Keep up the good work.

Yeah the hardest part is trying to find a completely flat and level surface to clamp the work to, which also doesn't conduct much heat otherwise it takes forever to heat the work up.

Thanks for all the comments everyone :thumb:

I haven't had much time to do work today but I've got a small update for you:

As I'm still waiting for the new 2mm PCI slot peice, I moved onto the heatsinks again. As I'm now using Durafix weld I re-made the heat sink panels:

I've also managed to find some 5mm thick bar this time too:

    Heres the first welded peice:

I'm amazed at how neat this stuff is, the pic above is without any sanding or filing and you can barely notice it. More welding will be coming up tomorrow. Stay tuned :D

I've used Durafix myself, and it is pretty awesome stuff. As long as your aluminum is thick enough anyway... Which is a lesson you learned just like I did. If you got the thickness to absorb the heat, you can make some pretty cool things. :D

Really nice man:thumb: I've re watched the demo video for the Durafix a few times. And to see a practical real world use here. :jawdrop: Wow, sweet!

Love your work, especially the small solutions. You make me wanna dig out those rods of durafix I ordered a long time ago and play with them. I'm not shure im getting your idea with the heatsink. You said your surface area is around 2m square but when looking at the pics I se what looks like 2 "blocks" (4 sides) around 50cm. That makes 1m square of surface in contact with the air. To me, that seems a bit on the downside when cooling both CPU and GPU but I may be wrong. Will be interesting to see the results of this design.

    Good luck

Yeah its awsome stuff, I even managed to weld two drinks cans together on a very small flame :D. I haven't quite got the technique to weld a thin peice to a thicker peice yet though.

    Thanks LooseNeutral :thumb:

    lol, thanks disturbed13 :D

Yeah all together the heatsink will be made from a 1430mm by 396.4mm sheet, and in comparison my previous scratch build "Silent Fibreglass" was made with a 1000 by 500mm sheet. I may also add fins in between the heatsinks to add another 380 by 326.9mm of sheet, and also fins could be added between the large heat sink and the case side panel to add another 475 by 350mm of sheet. I'm also hoping that because the coolant is going to flow inbetween the panels none of the surface are will be wasted. As with standard heatsinks its usually tubes/heatpipes which go through the fins, and the fins don't get as hot as the tube or heatpipes.
