    19th Update [12th Aug 2010] My first 100% DIY waterblock :D

Hi and welcome to one of my best updates so far :eeek:

For many years I played with watercooling systems, I made parts, and top-cover for many blocks, but never I made a waterblock base plate. The reason, tools, now I can use a milling machine.

In the next pictures you can see the entire process, from first sketch to the finished piece, enjoy :D

These plastic rings are glued with two sided tape. Only two have holes.

This level difference is because the mosfet measures 2.5mm high and chipset-gpu 2mm.

I polished a bit to maximize the thermal transfer.

Very nice eh? I feel really good after this. I can delete the line in my list of "things to do in my life":
    -Write a novel
    -Have a son
    -Plant a tree
    -Make my own waterblock...

    :D:D:D

oh i feel like quitting the whole modding life now, that's not a home-brew waterblock but a production style block. Looks factory made!

Yes, it's Delrin, a metal top could be too heavy, also I prefer it to a plexiglass one.

LOL! That block will look so much better than many retail blocks once the top has been cleaned to the max, and if you round the edges a bit!

    NICE work man!

By now I'm a bit limited to make round corners or ellaborated forms in the inner part. CPU blocks have designs to improve thermal transfer, and I can only do simple designs. Remember, this milling machine is completly manual:

This is a rare waterblock (mosfets+chipset/gpu+gpu memory), for CPU and GPU probably I'll use a commercial blocks, or at least the base.

very nice machining, not that it really matters for your waterblock because of the small thermal load, but couldn't you mill very fine channels throughout the bottom to maximise surface area?

I love that block! Simply wonderful work!

[EDIT]I forgot to ask, but since I'm planning something similar - how are you planning on mating the block, the NB, and the power circuitry? I can see that the NB was originally TIM'd conventionally, with what looks like paste, but the power chips have thermal foam or similar. Are you going to use that again? And if not, do all the chips lie flat enough to just use paste?[/EDIT]
