They are trying to get the groupthink going early. If you create the impression that a game is going to be absolutely amazing before you release it and can convince others of this then when it does come out, rather than admit they were suckered in by the hype, a lot of people will just simply agree. It's not easy to slag off a game if you think everybody else will think it's great (or if they think it'll be bad, it works both ways).

Groupthink is powerful mojo. Only way to counter it is to keep reviewers in those plastic tupperware boxes and only unseal them when the game is launched.

Crysis was an excellently fun game marred by an utterly uninteresting story. Frankly, Crysis 2 looks to be about the same - cool open-ended levels, great combat, but a totally bone-dry narrative. Frankly, any shooter that receives 9/10 or higher from me has to have some sort of narrative intrigue in addition to its technology. I need more than "sweet multiplayer" for a game to qualify for such high accolades.

Even if it gets 9/10 that won't stop the (true) complaints about shortness of game time. However if it's as intense a 7hr experience as Warhead was, I'm sure I'll just play it all over again. This lack of Crysis 2 and Portal 2 at Christmas just means more time to play oldies.

    Quality, Quality, Quality.

Why aren't they aiming for 100% then?

edit: I liked crysis story, it shits all over MW crap. Here you are stood in a lift with the bad guy, don't for god sakes open fire and kill him = mission failed, then he kills you at the end of the mission, WTH! O_O

Infinity Ward has a **** plotline for everyone of their games.
The only difference w/ MW2 is they got paid to **** out more.

Couldn't agree more, see FarCry 2 and Halo for reference.

To be honest though I expect Crysis 2 to at least be a solid 80% game.

If they are SO confident then why did they move the release date to 2011. They keep proclaiming Crysis 2 as the Halo killer yet they don't have the balls to go head to head with Halo Reach this fall.

Crytek and EA are s!*t scared of competing with Halo Reach and Call of Duty Black Ops which will positively own them in sales. Not to mention that Starcraft will still be selling strong. It wont sell more than the original Crysis IMO.

Crytek are the Nvidia of the software world...
