Price more than anything, most of these buys were bargain basement/clearance sales/old stock. I prefer AMD for gaming anyways but for always on game/file servers Intel xeons seem the go... for now until i get another ASUS K8N-DRE for my spare 252's XD)
Wow guys you're chewing through cpu-s faster than some people change socks. My list is very limited: Pentium II 266MHz Athlon XP 1800+ Athlon XP 2500+ Phenom II 550 -> Phenom B50 So you can imagine what a 'step up' I did going from an XP to a Phenom.
Some kind of Pentium 3 thing *Shrugs* was the family PC, so didnt use it much. Athlon XP 3200+ Socket A Athlon 64 3200+ Socket 754 Athlon 64 4400 X 2 Socket 939 Athlon 64 6000 X 2 Socket AM2 Phenom 2 955 X4 Socket AM3 Atom 330 Fools Soldered on Yo... Thats in order from about 2005 ish maybe earlier i cant remember. Ive gone from a Phenom 2 955 X 4 Black Edition to an Intel Atom 330 X2...which is quite depressing : / Looking to go for a low Wattage AMD on that AM3 ITX board that has just been released.
Short list for me as I only got into building my own PC's in the last 2 years... Ist build - AMD Phenom 9500 2.2ghz x4 Rebuild - AMD Phenom II 940BE 3ghz x4 Rebuild - AMD Phenom II 1090TBE x6 My ps3 was left abandoned in the sitting room so I sold it about a month ago and built a HTPC instead and thats got a Phenom II 955BE in it. Tried to activate the 2 dud cores but they lived up to the moniker... Just like the upgrade paths that AMD lets you have. At any time, any cpu will more than likely drop into any mobo. I also find that there is a great second hand market out there for this reason so when bulldozer comes out there is a wide audience of people with mobos thatll take my 1090T
Intel: -Some old PIII I don't remember the specs of. Hand me down family box. -Some terribad Celeron I CBA with remembering the specs of. My first purchased PC. -Core 2 Duo E6750, current. It just happened to fit the bill. AMD: Athlon64 3800+, followed the Celery. When I finally knew what I was doing. I also plan on going with Intel in the future, simply due to AMD's 2011 line-up not looking as hot for the gaming desktop sector. I kind of want to make a lan machine with a Phenom II X2 and a 5770 before then, however.
Hmm, dont recall all the model numbers (think I had an omlet for breakfast) a Cyrix 200? an AMD K series Intel.. 386 (with math co-processor) 486's P60,90,100,200,400 Pent II, III p4's Celeron Pent D's q6600, q9650, qx9650, qx9750 i7-920, i7-860, i7-980x Oh a Mac Pro with a pair of xeon's So I guess Intel
Intel: Pentium 133Mhz Pentium II 350Mhz Pentium4 1.8Ghz Pentium4 2.53Ghz Xeon 3.6Ghz x2 Pentium-M 2Ghz Core 2 Duo E6300 Core 2 Quad Q6600 Core 2 Quad Q9450 AMD: Duron 800Mhz AthlonMP 1.2Ghz x2 Athlon64 FX52 Athlon64 4200 Phenom 9850 Mobile: Duron 'Mobile' Pentium-M Celeron-M Celeron-M Core 2 Core 2 (not typos, just can't remember the frequencies) I prefer Intel for work, AMD for playing around / tweaking.
I bet! FX-60 was an awesome CPU though, made even better for me cos I got mine from the U.S for a third of the price they retailed in the UK at the time! If my water cooling hadn't leaked and killed my 939 board and memory, I'd probably have skipped several of my Core 2 CPUs.
