Thanks for the link. Good news indeed - I hate moving parts :) I'm about to buy my first SSD at 64GB for a boot drive with W7 and a few essential programmes. I look forward to the near future when I can afford a larger capacity one to install all of applications I'll ever need on too :)

Direct quote from the Anandtech link.

    Missed that one...

Personally I don't see it. Intel have a competitive-performance SSD available in a decent range of capacities. Instead of making them dirty cheap at <£1/GB why wouldn't they just undercut their rivals by, say £5, and make a bucketload more money? That way they can milk the market right the way down the price war and still be turning good profits.

Well, Intel isn't exactly hurting for cash. Perhaps their plan is to force prices down (good for us!) all the while lowering the margins for competitors or new entrants?

Maybe for once they are thinking of not fleecing their customers...

I don't think Intel have ever said they'll double the capacity at a given price point. Anand's only pointing out that moving from 34nm to 25nm should give twice the capacity for a given area of silicon. It's much more likely that they'll base pricing on the competition.

They are probably aiming to maximize market share at the cost of some profit.

This is good news for me though, I will looking at a SSD for my boot / Windows drive on my next build.

Amazing news :) I was considering getting an SSD in my build 4 months ago but due to my budget I decided against. This price drop should be a great thing.

Nah, Sparrowhawk is right. They're probably just wanting to lower the prices to squeeze competitor's margins and highten the barriers to entry. Not that I'm complaining though

Been waiting for this, I was hoping for an 80 gig X25-V for my HTPC. As for the new X25-M, it doesn't look like it's much of an upgrade over my G2 X-25M. Seems Intel have done the bare minimum again, to just stay in the competition.

Well, the Sandforce 2000 chip will give the G3 a beating.
    G3:
    Sequential Read: 250MB/s
    Sequential Write:170MB/s
    read IOPS: 50K
    write IOPS:40K
    Security: AES-128

    Sandforce 2000:
    Sequential Read: 500MB/s
    Sequential Write:500MB/s
    read IOPS: 60K
    write IOPS:60K
    Security: AES-256

Well This is going to be excellent!

I can finally grab a decent SSD and still have enough for everything else. Lag-less STALKER here I come!

Sounds great to me. A lot of people will like the sound of this. SSDs have just been too expensive for a lot of us so far.

How did I miss this when it was "new? I can't wait to finally get a SSD for my computer. Plus an upgrade to W7 wouldn't be a bad thing

Too bad they kinda suck as far as SSDs are concerned. Better than a conventional HDD by far though.
