Hey everyone im new here and pritty new to modding but have put together a few pcs over the last few years. Over the last 8 months i have been building a lian li pc-60 case into a watercooled i7 machene of doom hehe, well its been put on hold 4 a little while, and its not so doomy but now its back in full swing! the case will b a cold white and blue theme hence the name so here is the spec .... so far motherbord: asus gene2 ram: 6gb corsair 1600mhz cpu: i7-930 gpu: gtx 460 (soon to be 2) drive: ocz vertex 2 (sandforce) again soon to be two psu: corsair 850 modular case: lian li pc-60 fn (modded a little )
ok so here is the case im gonna use: the first thing i did was strip it down and remove the hdd bay as i wanted a single rad here i really didnt no what theme/colour i wanted....i loved project pure and loved the white clean look so i desided on blue n white....i was really lucky due to a family member working at a powder coating place and she said she would powder coat anything free! result before sending it away to have its spaday i cut a 140 mm hole at the bottom for the rad using a jigsaw (sorry no pics it was never gonna b a worklog lol) for my first mod i was happy with the outcome of a simple hole and super excited ...lol lame i know
i decided to pop a triple rad in the top panel i knew space would b tight (it ended up being like 3mm of a gap! lol) i used the stelth blackice rad 360mm also i got my 120mm rad for the bottom (a thermochill)....at this time i also got my fans i got 5 120mm xigma fans and a 140mm one i got all this from watercoolinguk and their fourms helped me out alot!, i quite liked these fans but they were only in orange (so i pimped them up!) they b blingin!....bout 2 weeks after i did this the blue ones seem to be sold everywere! lol but im really happy how they came out
i popped them on the stelth rad n they looked really cool the wires looked a little poo so i learned the art of dasy chaining! lol they looked alot cleaner after a little brading as well..... i then went crazy and braded everything in my wake! while i sprayed my fans i also got to work on the thermochill rad which i sanded down and sprayed white preping fro sand and spray this is how it came out it took bloody ages! lol and i droped it on my foot while trying to hang it lol....sorry bout the lack of progress shots i compleatly forgot )
@ alaxandros: cheers dude! er its vauxhall blue! halfords paint its a pain to spray n took like a millon hours to dry, but it has a really good finish
Agreed, that paint looks awesome! and you are so lucky to have free access to a powercoater.... i wish i had a family member who powdercoats. subbed btw.
I really like what you have done to the fans, that blue is a beautiful colour. Looks like this will be a cool build (pardon the pun ).
lol thanks na puns r fun ....sorry heh heh ok so update time i did abit more cable brading to the psu 24 pin and it was super long n just a pain lol it took ages! and i ended up braking a pin so i decided to just use extension pre braded leads instead also tryed my luck at cutting the top panel for the triple rad at the top n it came out ok if u look at the inlet n outlet i kinda messed it up so i got a new top panel from kustom pc n also got it pre cut as well, yey! lol it kicked the ass outta my cutout, i still needed to cut the holes for the switches and ni/outlet tho so i set about doing this using a bore tool first cut left one almost sanded yes! everything fit! was well happy with this! lol
thanks, yer i was so happy with the fans! i also sprayed the front panel mesh a matt white by this time i almost had all my hardware but still no graphics card i had to put it into the case, well what i had anyway just to see if it er fit....yes fitting was the only reason i werent excited atall...honest! eeeeeeee!! it lived!!! er i mean fit well lol i also sprayed the pcb back plates the same colour as the fans they looked very much at home, i really didnt like the screws holding them in tho and it looked a real mess, but it got striped after i had marked a few bits to b cut out from the mb tray. i realised i had a very long way to go n how hard it is to build a real peace of eyecandy at this point lol
about 3 weeks later i finally got a graphics card it was bloody hard to pick on what to use but i settled to go for 2x gtx 460s and have just got my first one i took a little photo of all my hardware to date i also got my first everist ssd lol 6gb of 1600mhz corsair memory my fantastic photo skills goin to work here and my new graphics card!!! i fitted the top panel and also the new switches n also braded the cables thay go to the motherbord headers-these would post through the hole i cut out in the mb tray as you can see in the pic i also cheated and got some nxzt pre braded cables for the graphics card
Still can't get over that gorgeous blue color. And I'm hoping for some serious modding to that gfx card! That orange and black will stick out like a sore thumb.
hehe yer i will b getting another one n putting on full cover ek water blocks the plan is clear tubeing with ec6 uv blue liquid, the cpu will be cooled with a ek full copper waterblock
