    PLED you say? Polymer Light Emitting Diode apparently - I'm pretty sure they're the same thing as OLED's (O for organic) :) Each pixel of this display is one LED!

    Anyway first saw these a while back (think mat-d-rat linked me to one? I forget). Basically they look like LCD's but don't have brightness/contrast issues, colour issues, can be viewed from any forward angle and I think their response time is better (though I may be wrong on this one).

    They just look like normal bare // LCD units, except the display is much thinner:

    // wiring is the same, bar no backlight and a constant 5V to pin 3 - no contrast to worry about. I ran out of ribbon cable and had to reuse a 25 pin plug, so you'll have to forgiveit not being as neat as normal ;)

    Working in LCD Smartie: (pics taken with a bright lamp pinting straight at the display, the display is quite bright!)

    The perfect contrast from all angles is very very nice, though I'd perfer a different colour to green of course :) The display is pretty bright, not quite VFD standards but better than an LCD.

    Picture taken in the dark to illustrate that there's no brown background like you'd find on an inverted green LCD :)

    I'm fairly impressed. If you're interested I think a UK company will be selling them unwired for around £25 and // wired for about £30 soon - I'll let you know more if/when I have it.

    Rock. :rock: (That's for both the display and your choice of music. :))

    Hopefully, they'll become mainstream, and it looks like it'd be easier/safer to do dimming effects (my latest obsession) with them.

    That's friggin sweet! I can't believe they can put an indivual led into something the size of a pixel. I wonder if they could do the same for multi colour LEDs. :clap:

    They can, there's actually quite a few new display technologies just around the corner :) The beauty of using luminescence from polymers is the polymers can be inkjet printed in place, funky eh?

    A pic of the display next to a red mo:

    {param}

    Shame I gave the inverted green away so soon, would have made a good comparison :) Anyway the red has good contrast for an lcd - mo have done really well with it.

    Heard back from the guy who sold me this, £22 (+£3 pnp) for the bare display, email djenlightx@hotmail.com if you want one :)

    what we need to do is get together and put all the monies in a central fund and make a bulk order to the UK then dispatch between those who want one. maybe some of our american friends could label them gifts so they come through customs (hopefully) with no bother :D
