So after building the Plex PC (and discovering it's THE most static medium known to man) and not being able to keep it clean, I decided for a new build.

This is with the latest upgrade, running air, was still busy with the AM3 water block

Being a fan of the 50's thought of this ( Though from the 40's)

This is the design I decided on

    CPU : AMD PHENOM II X6 1055
    RAM : CORSAIR DOMINATOR 2 X 2GB
GPU : ASUS 5850 Direct Cu
    PSU : OCZ 700W

Had the steel laser-ed and bent, design took the most time as I wanted to make it from the least amount of parts and the least amount of welding.

    Base bent

    Lid bent

    Base with ducting

    Dry Assembly

Just to give you a Idea of what I was aiming for

Iron Giant + Ironman = Midnight Zephyr Project?

Looks nice mate, definately a new approach to case designs.

i love that era, their design was so over the top in many ways..
    ( that 40's - 50's american diner/cafe feeling is a fav of mine! )

Definately gonna keep a very close eye on this one!

Now I really wanted to add some flair to the build, and started looking for some small Linear Actuators, the quotes I got was INSANE, ( to put it in comparison , The price of a ASUS 5850 TOP CU....Each !!) . So I decided to make some Pneumatic cylinders, and pressurizing them with CO2.
    The Plan

    And what actually happened

Now for the fun part, CO2 bottle pressure is about 700-1000 PSI , WAY too much for the cylinders, so I ordered a CO2 regulator from Genuine Innovations in the States

And a Flex riser from a guy in Germany ... Alla Ares Sleepstreamer style

Well now on to the current progress with the two cylinders fitted and the one rad and res.

You made your own co2 powered rams? That's bonkers :D

You might like this company the makes linear actuators, pretty cheap prices though it seems a little late now, but all the same :)

Loving the theme, really well executed so far. :)

This is an awesome start; your not messing around :)

    sub'd
Can you give a little more information on the linear actuators you made…how and what are you using to move the pressure in and out of the cylinder? Is it electronically controlled, part number for the valve,…? Sorry about the questions, just curious. I had toyed around with a similar idea and after seeing the cost ditched it. I decided to just use mini gas shocks from McMaster Carr, but after seeing what you are doing it would be cool to try making my own like you.

    Worthy questions.

The Cylinders ( Rams) are made from 1" ID Ally tube, Turned a piston and glands and hey presto. I'll dedicate some posts to details of the individual components.

Keep you're eyes peeled, I'll go through the circuit in more detail later on, I still have to dress them up and sort the valves. At this stage it's a manual FESTO valve, but the plan is to either add a solenoid, or make a remote base/dock, as there is no place on the front for switches and USB , Plus I got these in the post last week, part of a NIXIE Clock project, maybe do a temp indicator or something.
