Sorry to hear about the CPU fault. Personally I'd just go and buy a i7 950 as they're £10 cheaper than the i7 930 on Scan at the moment.

Hmm. I'd be tempted to uninstall each of the 8 entries and reboot. Windows should then attempt to re-install the drivers.

My Asus Crosshair 4 Formula once decided to lock off one of my 6 cores for no apparent reason. A quick check in the bios, a system restart and i was back up and running at full hexi-core goodness. I still to this day don't know why it did that to me.

Can you disable cores on a P6T Deluxe?

Checked all that. I only have 2 cores available in BIOS. This is what makes me think it's non of the above Windows problems. I have 2 cores at hardware level.

Gee, what happened to just modding it then? Must be some severed connector - get the dremel and soldering iron! :D

Soldering iron? I prefer to use graphite, like back in the days when you could make an Athlon XP into an Athlon MP.

Just done that. No change. Re-installed the ASUS chipset drivers also... no change :(

I think the poor thing's dead then, bad times! Is it still under warranty? I didn't see if you said if it were OEM or Retail.

Out of warranty. It's a retail version... but had it ages.

I'll take the chip back to Scan and get them to test it. If they also get 2 cores only, I'll buy a new chip... if it works OK there... I'll get a new Motherboard.

just to be double sure, have you set cores to all in the bios?

I can only see 2 cores in BIOS.

Yes. Re-flashed a few hours ago.

I've never tested the 1, 2 or all cores function in my bios but I have mine set to all so it can see them all.

I can't see an option to show many cores are in use in my BIOS but also have it set to 'All'

Grrr.. can't get to Scan all week due to work. Then I'm away for Xmas, and won't get back until Xmas day. Looks like I'm stuck with a crippled rig until New year :(

bah, this can easily be fixed!

It's obvious that intel are trying out their new scheme on you, all you have to do it buy one of their 'upgrade cards' to unlock the other 2 cores....

    :p

Do you have any buddies that have an i7 system that you could throw the chip in and see if it really is the cpu?

Nope... I wish I did, as that would rule out motherboard issues. I'll have to wait until I get back from the Orkney Isles and take the i7 to Scan for them to test for me. I'll either buy a new Mobo or chip depending on the outcome of that.

Darn, that sucks. Hope they can pin it down. The fact nothing else weird has happened nearly rules out the mobo.
