Come on then people, lets see who been sneaking in some powerful HEX core CPU's as we have had a crazy PPD increase recently which is just awesome for our team and of course the science :thumb:

If anyone feels like sharing what hardware and overclocking settings they have on any of the CPU's that would be a bonus for others looking to upgrade to similar rigs and those who have less overclocking experience :)

Despite having next to no money I have managed to scrape enough together for a 970 which I should have in the next week or so which im replacing a 920 with for bit of a bump in PPD!

Those 970 owners, what mhz have you got these to reliably on air and water? I have a spare Titan Fenrir but also have some water cooling kit to hand as I want to ideally squeeze everything I can out of it reliably for 24/7 folding! :D

Dont know, hope be in the Hex gang soon, just need to 990, so I can rid myself of this "crappy" 950 to the wife!

My other Hex and above are out of context of your post so won't comment on those.

Guessing my 1090t doesnt count :( not that it can remotley compete with an intel hex core :sigh:
Its at stock, but does give a bit of a boost to my failing ppd:D

    Asus P6TD Deluxe
    Intel 980X
    Swiftech GTZ/Fesser Monsta 360

    200x20 = 4GHz
    RAM runs at 1600MHz

    CPU Voltage 1.23750
    QPI/DRAM core Voltage 1.25
    CPU PLL Voltage 1.9
    DRAM Bus Voltage 1.64
    All others Auto
    Load Line enabled
    PCIe/CPU Spread Spectrum disabled

    Runs 24/7
CoreTemp has recorded 72degC as max temp on any core.

    Asus P6T Deluxe V2
    Intel 980X (ex littlepuppi)
Swiftech GTZ/Black Ice Stealth 240 and 120 in series

    200x20 = 4GHz
    RAM runs at 1600MHz

    CPU Voltage 1.350
    CPU PLL Voltage 1.9
    QPI/DRAM core Voltage 1.3
    DRAM Bus Voltage 1.64
    All others Auto
    Load Line enabled
    PCIe/CPU Spread Spectrum disabled

    Runs 24/7
CoreTemp has recorded 69degC as max temp on any core.

So oddly the one that needs less volts and has the better cooling runs hotter, I'll need to remount that I think.

I know these aren't very heavy overclocks but I want these to run 24/7 solid as a rock. My days of killing chips are way behind me.

P.S. What is the best overclocking chip you have ever had? I've had one that did a 100% overclock on air, with more to come.

    Got 2off 980X's.
Running at stock since the summer (temps were 74DegC with H50's) - also only running as normal smp's (under Linux) as my broadband couldn't handle bigadv's and my Win7 x64 machines drop internet connection (for no apparent reason) every few days ......

LOL the 950 isnt a "crappy" CPU by any means, will quite happily go 4.2+ ghz for 35,000 PPD but yeah compared to a Hex core its not going to win any awards!
Still interested in what VMware kit hardware you have in work or whatever folding away mate?

Sweet, that will make a huuuuge increase to your PPD mate, how long before you get the ram?

All contributions for the science are good ones mate, out of interest what PPD is your 1090t producing and what speed you running it at? :)

Awesome stuff mate, no wonder youhave flown up the charts with 2 x 980x! And yes I agree with the price of the CPU's I wouldn't be pushing the over clocks tooo much either!!
    My best overclocked CPU is a 920 Do @ 4.2ghz @ 1.288v core :D

Sorry Bindi, title amended for just Intel because I was just interested in the Intel side of things because of the outstanding power they perform with but am happy to see any AMD results as well :)

Nice work with 2 x 980x's Doc but shame about your temps and Broadband mate :( If you dont want to get into full on watercooling I hear the H70's offer around a 10 degrees drop in temps over the H50's?

No sorry mate not heard anything but sometimes he shuts his rigs down to do some work on them and comes back online with an extra 100k PPD haha.

He might be properly water cooling his SR-2 Rigs to keeps temps down ready for summer or something? I'm positive he will be back soon though :D :thumb:

A pair of Foster core LV Xeon 1.6GHz (400MHz) in an Asus PC-DL with pin mod ran at 3.2Ghz:jawdrop:.

But the most advanced machine I ever had was a pair of Prestonia core Xeons 2.4GHz (533MHz) (M0 stepping) in an Asus PCH-DL pin modded and running at 3.6GHz. Still got the mobo and chips somewhere, must dig them out. If I remember correctly it had 4x512MB of PC3500 BH-5 RAM on it.

I have an I7 970 coming over from USA shortly so that will replace my existing 950 so I hope I will be able to do some more folding with it? Possibly BIGADV units?

Currently just folding on my graphics card - GTX 580.

1090T @ 4GHz folding most of the time and an i7 930 server when it isn't be used for development :)

I have to run the i7 at 75% though just in case it needs to be used, so only getting about 4kppd, the 1090T is getting about 9kppd though.

But then I seem to be a rogue flashing an AMD chip in here :(

    QPI 1.375
    CPU 1.335
    All other volts auto

    175 Blck
    24 multi

    4.2ghz.....

Temps are circa 70 degrees under H70's using mx3.

9k ppd is pretty good going on the 1090T just a shame theres not 8 threads to make use of the BIGADV projects :( If AMD bring out an 8 core chip it will be interesting on the BigAdv's :D

Nice work littlepuppi thats what im aiming for 4.2ghz but I am thinking 200x21 :)

If you go over to the Folding forum there are people there running BigAdv on heavily overclocked AMD 6 core CPUs. They have a "way" of tricking the server into thinking they have 8 cores. They finish with a few hours to spare and make 20,000PPD.

Oooh may have to try that!

I did have a few BigADVs on the i7 when I first set it up, but it was very close to the deadline each time, and was getting a bit risky. It now just runs the SMP client when it is not in use for testing.

Nothing quite so Machiavellian I'm afraid. I've just been folding under another username for a challenge. Most of you know how I enjoy challenge events and the fact that this one had some modest charitable donations attached to it clinched it for me.

A big fat happy new year everyone!!
