Since i got my iPad i haven't used my rig as much as i should, to be honest since i built it i have used it as it deserves to be used and im thinking of down sizing to something like i3, cheap cheerful and does what i would want it to. Now i want to ask you guys a question should i down size or will it not be beneficial money wise??
I don't see why you would. Remember you'd have to change the motherboard aswell, X58 has no i3 processors. Or do you want to part out the lot and build one from scratch? I'm not sure what you need from your PC.
That is one hell of a rig you have now, if you're not even getting it close to it's potential and probably won't, downgrade. The i3's are power at value. And check your marketplace thread, I have dibs on the ram
Well i still game but not as much as i would like all i do really is surf the web, movies, music and thats really it and having a beast of a pc is a waste im looking to get rid of everything apart from the HDDs, PSU, cpu cooler, and optical drive. sell the rig and getting a cheaper alternative would leave me some spare cash as well
i3 Are a LOT slower then any i7. Take note of this chart is a great comparison between cpus http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html
If you can make a good enough profit from the i7 rig, I'd look to buy straight from a retailer considering how well the 450's are priced.
The single biggest potential saving i can see is the graphics card. If you sell that you can also let go of the PSU. Used 950s go for about 140 quid, while a new i3 will set you back about 90-100 pounds. Is 40-50 worth the enormous downgrade? Not to mention swapping the motherboard and getting 1.5v RAM. I'm way too tired to do the calculation but with the cost of a full platform swap i would not be surprised if you didn't make much money at all on the CPU downgrade. If i were yu i'd just ditch the 580 for now and see how you feel afterwards.
Dragun does have a point, considering the profit you'd make from selling secondhand, you might as well only downgrade the PSU and graphics.
the thing is i have had that psu for about 2 years now i dont thinks its going to be worth that much???
I don't know, I think there's still a bit of a warranty with Antec. If you can sell it boxed with all accessories and warranty info you should still get a good amount. After all, it is a very good power supply.
It's got a 5 year warranty. How attached are you to that sound card? Selling that might be more sensible than a chipset downgrade.
funny enough i do have the box accessories but i dont know about the warranty stuff ill have to check so to sum it up theres no point in changing the psu, mobo, ram just change the gpu,psu and i defo need to change the case i need to get something smaller and quieter
Why downgrade? Keep what you have... it will last you 7 years instead of 5 years. And if you ever need the power... well you have it. Think long term! I got my Dell U2410 monitor... I got it for 1920x1200 resolution (and the U2311H wasn't exactly out in Canada), it has all the plugs you can possibly need. I never thought of using it. Now I have my laptop plugged in on Display Port, I fix computers via second DVI or VGA, my computer is on DVI, and I have my Wii connected to it. My old computer has eSATA port.. I thought I would NEVER use it... well now it's a must feature.. as I have external eSATA driver.. the speed compared to USB 2.0, even 3.0 is no comparison. I got my motherboard with USB 3.0.. do I need it? no.. but I have it in the case.. one day... I'll get something on USB 3.0. Many things can happen in 5 years.
Agreed. Unless you desperately need the cash right now, you'll be saving more in the long term just by keeping your rig (which is pretty fantastic).
