It really does! To the point where LCD makers for mobile phones and desktop displays have changed their production lines to support Apple!! :(

It makes it extremely difficult for other companies to compete with that kind of buying power. So much for competition :(

Cateye - I wish I could get an iPad 2. I think I'm saving my money for a Macbook Air refresh for my gf (bday present) this summer instead.

iPad/iPhone actually cost more, even more than UK in China.

mid range graphics cards and CPU's are very cheap, but i find high end stuff to be a lot more expensive.

that's in Beijing........ not sure about Taipei.

I will definitely be getting one.

Discount on the original seems good for those wanting to pick one of those up.

I believe Charlie Brooker's human moth reference is very apt. :)

IMO Apple products are cheaper in Apple Hong Kong as compared to US... or may be it is so because of conversion rate.

Hong Kong has fantastic prices. Taiwan.. not so much :( Import tax is huge to protect local companies. Taiwan also only got the original iPad last OCTOBER because Apple couldn't be bothered to pull its finger out and fix a bug in Traditional Chinese (HK uses Simplified Chinese). Dunno when we'll see iPad 2.
