Hello So the i-5 2500k hype bug has bitten me and I have decided to spend my entire life savings (£850) on a medium and hopefully upgradable rig. Its main purpose will be playing Guildwars 2 - BF3 - Starwars and D3 as quietly as possible , I can hardly wait. After 2 weeks of research .. ; Coolermaster CM 690 II lite (£55) MSI P67A-GD55 Intel P67 REV B3 (£125) i5-2500K retail (£168) Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit (£71) Gigabyte GTX 560 OC 1GB GDDR5 (£195) Corsair TX Series, 650 Watt, ATX, PS/2 (£63) Samsung F3 HD103SJ 1TB SATAII 32MB Cache 7200RPM (£41) Samsung SH-S223 22x DVD±RW DL & RAM SATA Optical Drive (£12) Microsoft SideWinder X4 Keyboard (£33) Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz/PC3-12800 XMS3 i5 Memory Kit CL9(9-9-9-24) 1.65V (£40) Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus CPU Cooler (£20) Total £825 +£20 delivery =£845 I could extend the budget if needed but would like to save some cash for a few games. Does it all look compatible? Thanks
Seems fine to me mate, can't see any problems or compatibility issues. Where abouts are you getting your CM 690II Lite from? I'm pretty much getting the same upgrades you are, but ordering it all from Scan.
This looks like a nice set up. You should have one nice computer! I noticed that you havent listed a CPU cooler. Do you have one you will be using? I bought the x6 keyboard the other day and its great!
I almost went with the 690 Lite but actually went with the HAF 912+ instead. Real nice case. Make sure you check the scan today only deals, they often have the i5 2500K on offer along with a mobo (usually Asus P8P67 Pro). Sometimes they have a bigger deal with RAM and HDD too. The Hyper 212+ is often on sale too.
I'm ordering most of the stuff from novatech as its closer to me. I hope they are reliable! I've just had a last minute panic about the ram being 1.65v and changed it to Corsair Vengeance 4GB (2x2GB) 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 which is 1.5v just to be safe. I also have gone back to my original mobo choice of a Asus P8P67 Pro Intel P67 for an easier OC and the bluetooth may come in handy. I'm going to be using the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus CPU Cooler, im not really after a massive OC I'll be happy if I can hit 4.4GhZ.
I would opt for the advanced model of the CM 690 ii. I was looking at the advanced vs the lite and ended up getting the advanced and am very happy with my decision. The GPU bracket alone is worth the extra since it removes strain from the mobo, especially if you add GPUs later. from http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/cooler_master_cm690ii_advanced/ £69.56 Inc VAT for the non-window version.
