This is not a bowler hat. The shape is very distinctive, and I've wanted one since I saw it in this film. Bowler hats typically look very flat, low and symmetrical, like this:
All the bowlers I can find are squat, flat, round affairs as originally pictured, though. Is there a name for this...variant? They're not very bowlerish out of profile. Thinner at the top, with the front angled down.
On second thoughts, it looks kind of like a homburg, which would make sense considering where the movie's set.

This is true, the Derby was only called a Derby as some yank saw a Brit wearing one at a Derby (horse race) and began making them and naming them Derbys i think you'll find. I was subjected to a long conversation with a guy who worked in a hat shop when i was at uni. *Yawn*
