@Brinkzor - That's gluing you see in the vid. I'm guessing the disco is to drown out my cursing. I'm using a monoject syringe ATM.

Ouch that poor thing you smashed into oblivion at the begining .

Making throwing stars out of sheet metal done that but because I fluffed up a grill I was cutting out, they now hang on the washing line in the garden .

I didn't know pin striping was done freehand, good result from it, but was the silver guide line chalk?, so many things to learn on finishing but for some stupid reason I keep putting finishing practice in the back of my mind lol, need to dedicate more .

 

Yep, Brad made a grid with chalk. "1 Shot" is an enamel paint, and the best thing about "1 shot" is that it's very durable, and you don't have to clear over it. This is the same product painters use on cars and motorcycles. Just apply it, and you're done .....after many hours of practice, of course

Excellent tutorial from Brad. I did notice he mentioned using a telephone book for a pallet.

Nah, it belongs to his customer. Magazines are even better to pallet the brush.. here is some shots of the waterblock top after it arrived from cheaps, as shown in the video

Hey Cheaps, I think I have a spread sheet for calculating proper o-ring depth somewhere if you are interested...plus here is a link to the parker o-ring catalog which has information on everything o-ring related including grove sizes for all their o-rings.

I defiantly agree that the it would be a shame to build such a unique case only to spoil it with visible cables. But I really did like that translucent plastic. It has given me some ideas. . . . . .

 

It did look cool w/o anything inside. ..reminded of ice sculpture day we did pre-fitting

 

Friday is a good pic dump day, so.....

-This is side 2 of the block getting milled. The footage in the video is sped WAY up, and I don't play disco music. I listen to the music the mill makes. If it hits an odd note, I jump up and hit the pause button. The paperweights were added because the MDF I glued it to was a little too thin and vibrating. Vibration=crappy cuts.
Also, BANANAMAN!

-Here's the finished part. I got some ugly spots because the cam software sometimes comes up with some odd cutting paths. This time it started by drilling a couple of holes in the middle of the main pocket.

-Sanding involved 240 grit sandpaper, then a lot of Comet on felt.

-Once the top was glued on, I drilled and tapped the screw holes. Here I'm test fitting the O-ring. It was really snug. It is smashed perfectly square in the channel here.

-The last thing I had to do was clean up the holes for the springs. The best way to line up on a .25" hole is with a .25" bit.

@Voluntary_Pariah -Right? I gotta play with the "neat stuff milled into a big chunk of clear plastic"-thing too.

 

LOL! I think it was all Peter had that was close to porno movie music.. reminded me of "Charlie's Angels" but it still worked!

 

After watching the episode and the design of the waterblock, I left wondering Why such a complicated waterblock design with the way the fluid moves through it way thru the waterblock?

@Cheaps, do u have your own small CNC machine or do you do your own milling with a simple drill press??

 

1: it's more interesting.
2: I needed to get the block tall enough to mount the mobo cover.
