cant you buy 1M long strips with 1mm thick with like 10 ou 12mm wide? it would save you half the trouble, me thinks... :)

Thanks Shayper09. Yeah, you would need hundreds lol. Yep its not just skill, its mainly just practice, practice, practice :)

Yeah I tried a 10mm strip but unfortunately it doesn't look as good so I went for 5mm.

Heres how I've made the strips:

I clamped the dremel cutting disc to the miller and then clamped a aluminium guide bar behind it:

The plastic underneath is a peice of non friction plastic to hold the metal down onto the table while still allowing it to slide across the table:

Heres the straight peices made with the dremel:

I then started working on the more difficult part:

I then used a cutting disc on the dremel to manually cut out the inner part:

Here it is after lots of filing:

Here it is super-glued in place ready for the JB weld:

After the JB weld is on and set the entire panel will be sanded down and the thin strip on the side which I just put on will be polished.

you say it takes no skill? bullcrap! managing to cut a 5mm x 1mm strip without buckling it into a ball of alu mess is real skill. Figuring out how to do it is even more insane!

I bow to your skill and your ingenuity

EDIT: just to clarify, this is a reference to Riek saying it takes more practice than skill, not Waynio's earlier post ;)

You impress me for one more time bro. Words are really poor in this thread. Gotta invent a new lexicon for this thread.

    EPIC misunderstanding of a misunderstanding
But I'll leave it in for entertainment purposes

Graham did you read it like that too because that sure as hell isn't what I was saying :( I've been liking this build all the way :(.

Wow, excuse me but I didn't say it takes no skill, I said not 100% so that in your minds means 0% learn to read before saying such tripe, I meant 90% & 10% machine or did I have to clarify just for you & anyone else that can't read or understand what people are saying because many would look at what you wrote & assume someone's been a dick.

If you didn't know mills & upper level machines are designed to make engineers lives much easier with them being waaaaay more efficient & generally better than what can be done with average tools, that's definitely not to say it's easy because like any tool when your new to it there's a good bit to learn before you get good with it & as the likes of some of the CNC guys here Achron, AngelOD & djayness & many others has shown they really tend to know a great deal more than me on many aspects of engineering in fact probably all aspects  & materials & design & how to use advanced machines properly & I enjoy learning new things & have learnt quite a bit & had my eyes opened quite a few times hanging around here.

I was just replying to a modder who was mentioning about using a dremel compared to this mills, lathes etc, just thought I'd save Graham a little time & then some random misreads it & a regular misreads it or is just messing.

I hope your messing, I'll take it you are with the wink .

Yeah I mean your avatar is like Bez dancing from happy mondays :hehe::D:thumb:.

I really need to relax a bit more but I sooo want to get the case made so I'm gonna end up burning out if I'm not careful :D.

But yeah I think after me going on one twice in a short time I'm gonna chill out for a few days :).

You're not that far off - originally, it was a picture of the grim reaper, standing on a hillside and then I did a bit of photoshoppin', turning into a funky looking dancer-thingie, which is now my logo - I use it in my casemods, too.

Thanks TotalGaos, they have been tested earlier, although I'm still going to add an extra feature which change the look of the LED strips and make them a more even glow. The mesh also won't be left bare like that.
