This will only work if people pay for it, which they sadly will.

    Good business decision!

That figure just goes to prove that people are mindless idiots who will pay full price for what amounts to an expansion pack. I guess we can't blame them for good marketing and spending the money on other titles......oh wait they canceled most of those.

How long will it be until we are discussing how the COD/MW franchise died of over saturation?

    I reckon 18-24 months.

Activision did it with Guitar Hero but at least in that case they hadn't put all their eggs in one basket. This time they seem determined to do it even quicker.

Their business plan, afaict, is to use the MW brand as a basis for lots of (slightly) different games. That sounds like a good idea when the brand is so strong. But what happens if (when) it becomes toxic through this kind of money-grabbing exercise?

    +1

EA already offer this service for free since the days of BF2, the amount of stats tracking was sickening (I really do not need to know who my nemesis is!).

It's the first step down the road for monthly sub for all FPS games.. When Activision does this, EA might at first be saying "We offer that for free" but if it is successful EA would be foolish not to consider it for future BF games. If it isn't successful, the FPS games might be dropped in the future for not being profitable enough.

However, if Activisio offered just the multiplayer component on a monthly pay to play subscription with no/little upfront cost (eg. no need to buy the game you just buy a months worth of play at a time). They could be onto the next big thing. (I doubt that would happen thou').

As opposed to PC pirates who will pirate the hell out of it to teach Activision a lesson.

Hooray for baseless accusations and childish insults! Sigh...

Well i think its more aimed at consoles, as far as creating clans etc, how can you stop someone on a PC not having a clan? Also think of all the stat tracking you have for BF2? This don't make sense, i think its more just for idoits to part with money.

Didn't Activision say after the release of BlOps that they'd never charge subscription for Call of Duty multiplayer? Yet more shite from the worlds largest cash-milking cow.

look what activision are doing with WoW. subscription for remote armory, subscription for out of game guild chat access, subscription to play with your friends from other server in your own instance. All of this ontop of the baseline subscription you pay for the game.
Is it any suprise that they are adding a subscription to COD now?
