Ok I got the thing figured out.
The CueCat will be used now for product barcodes.
And wireless reader will be used to call up Media.
Right now I am thinking of putting a HUGE 120 or 160gb harddrive
into the media PC and storing DIVX copies of all my DVD's
Not to mention all the TV shows that will rack up once I start using it as a TIVO.

So it will be nice to have a catalog of all the media on the PC.
Hmm, now I need to find a small barcode printer, or label printer so I can add titles to the catalog as I record them.

Ok, so like you just scan the barcode on a DVD Box and the DVD/DIVX starts playing?

/me thinks Zap will begin running out of ports on his computer if he keeps adding stuff :D

That computer is going to be so loaded, is that closet still avalible, or is there a waiting list :D :D

Are you going to be writing custom software for the IPAQ as well?

/me also thinks that Zap is going to spend a lifetime programing this beast :D :D

I already have, I need two more serial ports, right now I am trying to find a cheap dual serial port card.
I need one for the Basic Stamp and one for the Barcode reader

Right now I am tempted to find some Serial to USB converter chips. But I am having to keep cost to a minimum.

Yes, I a writing custom software, it will take a while as I am just learning visual basic.

Is it called Communigate? Or the folks that made WinFax made a nifty little program as well.

WHAAT?!?!? I was sick for a week (damned influence), I browse my preferred forum and what I find?!?! A LOT of news on this wonderful project.... Zap, I'd like to have all the time you have for your experiments :waah: :waah:

I'm giving up the idea of a new plexy case for my PCs because my son and my work are taking the most of my time, but looking at your genial ideas I'm thinking to give up the work!!!! :naughty:

    You are the only one!

    GeeK!

USB to serial converters are generally either expensive or temperamental. The cheap ones won't work with a lot of random devices (mainly older ones). You might be best looking on eBay or somewhere for an ex-industrial 4 or 8 port PCI card, since that'll give you a little headroom for extra ports too.

Found this neat program you mabye could use. http://www.netremote.org/

"NetRemote is an application which functions as a remote to control a HTPC (Home Theater PC) via TCP/IP, allowing for bidirectional communication with no line of sight issues. "

It runs on your pda and gives you bidirection control of your pc and other junk so you can have playlist dvd cover icons and crap on the pda screen. It can load pront ccf files also so basically it lets you turn your pda into a 1500 ipronto and then some. Looks like it can do everything you wanted your display to do so might save you some coding time.
Theres a huge thread about it over at avsfourms.com in their HTPC section for more in depth info.

WOW Frogbutt that is exactly what I am looking for!
Awsome. The only problem is that it doesn't look like it can run in a landscape mode.

Oh and today is my long school day, so no updates tonight, you can get some sleep fivecheebs

    *UPDATE*

    taken from here

    "Question
    Is NetRemote source available?
    Answer
Not right now. I plan to opensource it when I am confident in what I have as a base. "

doesn't hurt to e-mail him though

I havnt messed with it yet but Tonto the tool to make custom ccfs. According to thispage netremote supports custom screen resolutions sp I think you could get it in landsacpe mode. The ipronto http://www.pronto.philips.com/ is itsself a land scape screen so Id assume its possilbe.
