I'll be giving this one a miss then, not worth my pennies for a game that doesn't give me the graphical porn i desire.

I'll invest on pay-day... Might be worth it, I do enjoy just breaking everything I come into contact with on these grounds more than anything.

Sounds like a challenge Joe... Might try it out.

Always liked the Red Faction series but I'll probably pick this up in a few months when it's half price.

I'd like to pick this up eventually, doesn't seem worth full price though. I've played the demo, and the dialogue was awful, but the gameplay was very entertaining. Can't really see it holding up for an entire campaign however.

Yeah, I agree with the review with the fact that the game seems to give you a sense of being hemmed in, claustrophobia, cabin fever. I think though that it might be down to the very narrow field of view.

original Red Faction was underground, about escaping.

not sure about the new direction they've taken with those bugs though..... seems adding for the sake of new stuff.

the narrow FoV with all latest games (except Portal 2) are a HUGE letdown. why must they insist on such useless limitation?

Red Faction was great when they stuck to the 1st person genre now that it's gone 3rd person, it lacks any incentive to play. I feel the levels just offer demolishing stuff. Can be fun at first but gets boring quite early.

I really enjoyed Red Faction: Guerilla so I may give this is punt in the sales or trade in.

I picked up Guerilla on the cheap, but it did feel like it was lacking something, destroying buildings and driving around seeming like a winning concept, but just feeling like a chore too often. That was, until you got a Jetpack, at which point the void was mostly filled by the awesomeness of flying around while destroying buildings.

I was worried setting this new game underground, as ceilings reduce the awesomeness of jetpacks.

In short, I would buy Red Faction: Jetpacks.

    Where is Volition's phone number...

It's a console thing. Playing from a distance, on a television, the smaller FOV feels more like watching a movie or looking at a painting than it does feel like it's putting you "inside" the game; on the PC, when you sit up close, it just doesn't work and is disorienting as hell. Most developers have little intention of tweaking their camera systems to make up the difference.

I loved Guerilla but I was disappointed to hear that Armageddon was going the caves-and-bugs route. This seems like a fair review and matches up with my expectations.
I'll probably pick it up when it shows up in a Steam sale down the line.

Looks like it would be a lot better with a wider field of view and by featuring colours that aren't a shade of brown.

That is really, really starting to bother me, especially given the fact that I now game triple-wide. Tiny FOV stretched over 48:9 is sickening.

I completely ditched this franchise the second they went 3rd person. Another facking symptom of damn consolitis.

I've played all 3 red faction games before this one on PC and this one by far was the least enjoyable. In the later half of the game the story had a chance to pick itself up by bringing up plot elements from the first game such as the plague that was killing miners but it never really goes anywhere and in the end, I would rather just load up red faction 1 for another play through.

Oh man, so true. It annoys me so much. Some games you feel like you have tunnel vision - and at very least it ruins the immersive feel of a game.

I guess it reduces graphics hardware requirements if less of a scene can be rendered. Or maybe it's a cheating way to make levels feel bigger (if the player must constantly rotate to see what's going on)?

At least on the PC we can (usually) edit a config file to force a higher FOV.

So, I started to play this game, looks nice.
Had first contact with aliens, which I do not like so much, preffered fighting with humans;)
I don't know - can you use those satchel charges like in Guerilla? OR is it swapped with this "granade launcher"?
