Build Advice Help! pc keeps saying auto detecting atapi cd-rom

    Hi guys, i just fitted a sata dvd rom to my daughter pc,thing is if i reboot the system i all i get is.."auto detecting atapi cd rom...if i reboot it boots to windows 7..if i then restart were back to auto detecting atapi cd rom and it just hangs there doing nothing...any ideas guys

    Hmm, have a peek in the BIOS and double check that the HDD is set to boot before the DVD drive. Also check that SATA mode is set to IDE, not RAID.

    Is the DVD drive new, as in brand new?

    Double check the cable and maybe try a different port on the motherboard.

    Thanks trip, no not brand new its out of another rig i own, its about 2 months old...ill try what you said...thanks
