how do you gain access to the beta?

 

Following the alpha invite I got a further email stating the beta stage was in September. My understanding is its open rather than invite for the next stage.

 

Not to sound too pessimistic, but don't expect many changes from the alpha.

The concept of alpha and beta testing has changed a bit as AAA titles start using them more as marketing incentives and limited demos. Even an alpha has to be a relatively stable, balanced, and polished version of the game in order to reflect well on what the final release will be.

The game is already, for the most part, completed. All of the graphics are done, only bug fixes and slight optimizations remain. The UI is stylistically done, a couple things might change position or color slightly, but nothing major at this stage. All of the different vehicles, perks and classes are likely long solidified. From this point on it's mostly balance changes, hammering out bugs and finishing up a decent amount of maps.

U seen these pics? OMG looks so real, there in game pics as well. Can't bloody wait.

 

There are some mighty fine textures in that selection. Weapon models are a bit polygonal though, throws off the realism a tad. It does look quite amazing (in that carefully selected group of screenshots posted on the PR site )

Any one got a link with more info about the "...EA will delete games after X...".

I've seen people doing a lot of complaining about it and it sounds like they are talking it up to be far worse than it is.


Also: The game does just keep looking better and better.

If [ZiiP] NaloaC hadn't convinced me to try out the Beta and see if my worries about Origin were founded, I reckon that video might have...

It was how I thought. I don't think even EA would try pulling the sort of crap that people were suggesting they were.

I imagine its to stop hackers making accounts to test out hacks etc

 

Yup. The 64-player conquest maps are included, but only for PC gamers. Consoles will have 32-player maps. The latest video from EA shows some of the jets dogfighting above the conquest map, as well as things like a set piece animation showing you taking dogtags from around the necks of players you knife!

EA have said the Beta will be open to all, but those who have Medal of Honor Tier 1 (or whatever the special edition is called) or signed up to pre-buy BF3 from Origin will get access to the Beta a couple of days before it is opened to all.

 

I am a suspicious soul and noticed that all those pics seemed to be taken from the teaser videos out a while back. For those that played in the Alpha, do the actual in game graphics compare to those pictures?

Also I hope you can turn off the bloom - those pictures looked like someone had gone mad with a jar of Vaseline! I hate bloom and blur!

Only thing that's worrying: customizable dog tags. I swear if there's a single "heeheehee I'm so f***ing witty" stoner joke in one of them I will nerd rage.

 

Yay for smoke launcher, the only useful assault attachment in Rush games.

Hope AT4 doesn't change much from BFBC2. It's a chopper killer in (my) capable hands.
