Building one tomorrow, i have a spec in mind (All parts from Scan as i live locally). But ide like to see other peoples build advice as it may change my mind for the better. Dont need : Case HDD's DVD-RW Need : Mobo Ram CPU PSU
I'd be looking at one of AMD's new APUs, they seem ideal for a basic web surfing type PC - cheap, but fast enough, and the GPU part is much better than most integrated ones
Yes. Certainly the route to go down. Good value for money, run cool, and very power efficient. And at least with the onboard graphics it won't struggle if you do throw some light gaming tasks at it.
If its just web surfing then a cheap dual core and athlon would be fine. I priced up a full system for around £320 that included, monitor, keyboard and mouse and the tower with windows 7 from scan
Fo web surfing etc the new apu would be better due to less CPU power and more gpu. However there isn't many fm1 board atm. Psu wise an corsair cx430/500 For the ram a 1600 MHz kit is worth it for the new amd chips but 1333 MHz should do for an i3 build.
Hell for cheap web surfing, I'd just buy a M/B bundle for around £150 Web surfing isn't exactly strenous on a computer
Nah it has to be a PC, his 2 year old pc world attempt has failed, it failed on my bench with a few sparks and a big flame coming from the southbridge.
The thing is..it was an impulse buy, he knows what i do for a living as i have built him many pc's..hell, his works pc is my old 939 system with an X2 on a DFI mobo thats been working for many years without a single hitch. Yet a 2 year pc world system set fire on my bench...
The best thing to do, as most of us on here know is that its best to build a PC from scratch. That way you know what components you are putting, most likely they will be better made than the ones installed by big computer manufacturers I've built a couple of PCs for myself and I will never go back to buying one pre-made
If it really is just for tinternets then FM1 is over board to be honest. If cost is a factor, just do a super cheapo build. It will smash web browsing and media. Athlon X2 255 £44.70 Cheapo MSI board £35.71 4GB Corsair Value Select £20.88 430W Corsair Builder Series £35.32 £136.61. Cheaper than just an FM1 CPU and board by £15 if you went for the 3850. You could probably get a second hand 8800 for £15 as well if he did need a graphics boost.
