This won't hurt sales of the PC version, no, not at all...

    Pfft.

I can see the headlines in a few weeks/months now: "Console versions of Deus Ex Human Revolution sold twenty times better than PC version, publisher and developer say they won't bother with another PC version for future games."

i think it looks okay but dont think the sales will be that effected to matter
even if they dont make future plans for making more on the pc platform
they will be the ones missing out not the pc community

Why the discrimination against Onlive when the game requires the Steam online platform to run anyway. If Gamestop truly had a problem with other peoples online platforms they would not be even selling the game

They also own impulse,a rival to steam. And that doesn't seem to bother them.

Still there shop, they can do what the hell they like, it's going to hurt them much, much more than it will hurt square enix.

It's hardly "pathetic" for a store to want to control what it sells....

Retail copies of a game are fire and forget. Giving a code to a game streaming service, something so niche and unlikely to work, has no impact upon them. They are hurting the consumer and gaining nothing.

Mea culpa, I'm not quite sure why I thought that.

No they can't. Its a very slippery slope. What if they made an alternative instruction manual for a game which cost £10. They then took the manual out of the boxed game but still sold it at full price.

Or say they took out the promotional code for a free character/mission/weapons because they sold them separately and didn't want you to get it included with the game. Thats not fair. I'm sure the only reason they haven't been dragged into court is because apparently they were not informed of the addition of the onlive codes when they agreed to stock the game.

Meh honestly who cares? I use steam or amazon for PC games ever since Game and Gamestop became an over priced charity store.

tbh I just feel sorry for bricks and mortar media stores, it must be terrifying for them realising that digital downloads are going to run over them like a steam roller in the next few years and there is literally nothing they can to to stop it. Within the next 2 generations of consoles, maybe even 1 their market share is going to drop to almost nothing.

Sorry, but I wouldn't buy from GameStop if they were the last brick and mortar retailer on the planet. Overpriced, understaffed, unknowledgeable and now they decide what the customer gets?!? I realize it's just a coupon, but if I'm paying for the package I want what the developer/publisher included... not what some ego-maniacal middle-man wants for me. "...the right of GameStop to have final say over the contents of products it sells and to adjust them where they see fit..." Up yours, GameStop.... think I'll see what this Onlive thing is.

GameStop is a prime example of why digital distribution is flourishing. They're just stopping short of actually flogging customers that make the mistake of buying physical copies.
