pretty sure MW2 and Blops used steamworks, it's got achievements, saved game sync and steam friends list integration.

apart from the gameplay itself, i must say, MW3 is looking better by the day.

Steamworks is a form of DRM where boxed retail copies must be activated on Steam and linked to an account before they can be used. This was the case with MW2 and Blops; compare this with COD2 and COD4 which are on Steam but are not Steamworks titles. Please get your own facts straight before correcting others.

Sure, if by 'better' you mean 'exactly the same as the last COD game' :p

Some distributors have previously avoided selling titles included Steamworks however, though no such boycotts have been publicly announced for Modern Warfare 3.

:) I can not imagine any distributor avoiding MW3.
MW games releases are probably one of the few times in the year when they make the most monney.

Is this decision influenced by Activision not wanting to 'establish an ongoing relationship' with their customers? ;)

Whatever EA does with BF3, Activision seems to do the opposite with MW3.

"Valve has confirmed that Steamworks will feature in all copies of the game, regardless of whether they are purchased from retail stores or digital distribution platforms"

Lol, I don't get some of you guys. When this was said about EA and BF3 there were posts from people saying that they would boycott the game and that it would lose EA sales. Read the EA/Origin thread and it's full of flaming!

Yes there was flaming, but because of the exact opposite... It doesn't use steamworks at all...

boy do i love competition. What's next? they add mod support on day one? DLC will sell for $10 instead of 15?

Although, this news is not really a surprise since the last two games had steamworks. Seems to be more of a "take that!" stab at EA.

wouldnt suprise me if BF3 made its way back onto steam for release.
MW2 and blops as said above were steamworks too.

Dissapointing news if you ask me. Steamworks means you own the game forever, no 2nd hand sales. Unless you sell your entire account (with all your games)

If only steam gave you the option to gift games you owned to other steam users. You could organise payment yourself externally.

Why buy a game that you don't want to keep? Well, okay, i did pick up Frontlines back in the day on Steam but that was like €2 and i can always ask support to just remove it.

And nobody in their right mind would buy a second hand COD game on PC anyways because of key issues. Even if you do get a key that nobody else uses anymore, it could be banned from all kinds of places.

This is really positive for COD. Taking the correct steps for their users may consider getting this at Christmas after I have bought BF3 see what's it like.
