Right, sorry if I have read this wrong, but where is says "Given that the report states that 19 million UK households have a net connection" . Since when has 77% of (about) 60 million people been 19 million?

I'm not even sure where 19 million comes from, but again sorry if I have read this wrong.

Haven't read it yet but I would assume that not everyone has there own house and that several people in the same house can share a connection.

According to this that means there are roughly 25 million households in the uk (if 19million is 77% of them) which averages out at about 2 and a half people per house, which sounds about right to me.

Also, I'm amazed there's that many people on dial-up, I didn't even know most companies still offered it.

    Basically.

There might be 19 million homes with net, but how many people live in each one of those homes? Three to a house is 57 million and that is only slightly less than the population of the UK. I say slightly, there is something like 62 million in the UK.

Sucks to be living in one of those 380,000 homes on dial up. How can you even use the web at that speed anymore?

They're not actually using it. 380,000 sounds about right for the number of people still on hold with AOL trying to cancel their 56k dial-up account.

    :)

Me too, ideal for my use when at work as the customer doesn't always allow use of their connection, and TBH I don't want to hook my laptop up so they could possibly monitor my use.

Use mobile broadband at home as I don't have a phone line yet, £15 for 3GB isnt too bad.

Have a 500MB cap on my phone so tend to use Wi-Fi more, but use it for internet access more than my PC.

380,000 homes in the UK, or (going off ye olde average between homes and people) a MILLION UK residents, are using dial-up internet.

    So, Activision, Blizzard, Ubisoft, EA...

About that whole "always online" thing...

pretty sure this figure counts mobile phone as a separate connection?

otherwise can't image so many people on 3G dongles. i had to tether my phone this week and it really isn't worth the stress. the latency is probably worse than dail-up.

It's true that some people are just not interested in computers or the internet.
