After the blurry crap I turned up with from Seattle last year, I'm quite pleased with how these shots from Manhattan are turning out. Chrysler by angad84, on Flickr Intersection by angad84, on Flickr Skyscrapers by angad84, on Flickr 1 Penn Plaza by angad84, on Flickr
Thanks mate. At the risk of sounding corny - I left my heart in NYC. Probably my favorite place in the world so far.
Spent last week in the mountains of Colorado, where'd we'd hoped to find some aspen in fall colors. DSC03051_1798x1200 by MechDo[/IMG] DSC03046_1798x1200 by MechDoc, on Flickr[/IMG] This next turned out to be in Pando Valley, where my dad trained with the 10th Mountain Division during WW II. I'd thought that Camp Hale was closer to Colorado Springs. The valley is about 9000 ft above sea level (roughly 3000 meters), and temperatures got down to 40 below zero (that's either Fahrenheit or Celsius, as it turns out) at night during some of their bivouacs. Yup. I thought so, too. However, the bright yellow _did_ cause me a lot of trouble, trying to keep from burning it out while getting everything else bright enough to show. Probably needed hdr treatment...
Finally got some of my Morocco photos sorted out and uploaded. I would cry if that happened to any of my lenses. In fact, I damn near did when I dropped my 70-200 in August. EDIT: Crap shots from a crap day. To be honest, not totally sure, but the impact was quite hard. The quick release plate that came with a quite expensive Steadicam was attached onto a tripod with the 10-22 on the 7d. 10 or 15 degrees tilt sent it lens down onto a rough street. The filter shattered, but the impact was on one side. So the lens is not a perfect circle & I think some of UV glass ended in-between the moving mechanism of the autofocus. Stonedsurd - Those are some great shots of NYC. I'm especially impressed with the clarity of the night shots. I do think that pano would benefit from some distortion correction. Gryphon - Nice travel shots. I'll be off to Flickr shortly to check out the rest of the set. MechDoc02 - The fall color in Colorado looks amazing! I did the 9 hour drive from SF out to the Eastern Sierras on Friday to shoot fall color but unfortunately I was a few weeks early for the show. The shot below was carefully composed to eliminate any green aspen leaves (which were completely surrounding this one good tree). No worries though... A chance encounter with a stranger inspired me to make a 2-day solo trek through the barren desert on a search for ancient petroglyphs. Turned out to be one of the most amazing experiences I've had in a long time. Aspen Spiral by Ligoman17, on Flickr edit - updated photo
That's a cracking shot mate - I love the composition and really tight DoF. No EXIF on Flickr - mind sharing what setup you were using for that? Any shots of the Petroglyphs?
Freakishly steady hands As for the pano - correcting individually in LR3 or PShop and then merging gives me weird results and correcting the pano once it's complete also looks goofy. I'm probably doing something wrong, but that's why I left it as-is. I'm going to try and shoot panos at 35mm or higher from now to eliminate squigglies. 9 hour drive sounds fun (no sarcasm, I really enjoy long drives). That's a great shot. Did you get any more?
Definitely merge first then correct. The distortion in that image isn't actually too bad, but the whole image to my eye looks like it could do with a couple of degrees of anti-clockwise rotation to get the verticals right. Did you consider tweaking the curves to pull up the contrast a little as well?
I'll give the contrast a bump but the buildings lean inward on both sides of the frame, so an anti-clockwise rotation would just make the buildings on the right lean in more. Touristy by angad84, on Flickr Times Square by angad84, on Flickr Cloudy Now by angad84, on Flickr
