Eve is a terrific game once you get into it, and is pretty much free once you have a few months skills and experience under your belt. Probably not for everyone but its an extremely rewarding game with excellent visuals, and I've yet to play a game near as consuming and comprehensive as it...

Heh, yeah they wanted pvp practice so they contacted my corp for a temporary war dec...
It essentially involved a large elitist fleet of RVB vs. a far larger Eve Uni fleet...
Killed all their fleet commanders first thing, after that they were lambs to the slaughter :D

    EvE is a huge game.

But its not a short game.

Getting into EvE is easy and quick....but the learning curve is very high, much higher compared with other games. It is fully free sandbox that has all the elements of real life, except being 'real'. There are a lot of politics involved and what you can do in real life you can do in EvE, with regards to spaceships. You can now walk in stations as well, and that will get expanded, as well going on planets...but will be a while. Updates for new expansions are all free.

You actually play on one huge server with every single player. So what you do has consequences for every other player out there. You can mine asteroids, kill NPC pirates, do NPC missions, exploration, find wormholes, outlaw space and build outposts, kil other ships, be a pirate, scamming is allowed, build things, run alliances, sell/manipulate the market.

Its a very big and to get into every single aspect isn;t possible at the start as you're limited by your skills. Skill training is constant even when your offline, so there is no 'grind' but its your choice and your plan and the higher advanced you go the longer the steps are. If you've played X2/3 its like that except the ship control is in 3rd person only, combat is very different from say freespace/x2 games but its still live.

However, having said that it does require time. If you aren't going to play it for a year or so than you will not get much exposure to all the aspects there are offered. I've played for 2-3 years and now I've stopped...my charcter is still there but I find I need to spend too much time in game to enjoy it...and I have too many rl repsonsibilties to do that. And to get to the top of one aspect of the game doesn;t take too long...but to specialise and be the best in multiple areas takes a very long time...several years...and even then you can still train stuff. To train all skills to the highest level (5) it would take 15 years. But ofc that doesn't mean you need to do that. A lot of skills are fine at level 3/4 and many skills are only required if you want to be elite in that thing. Being elite across every aspect...there are LOADS...would take a very long time...but its not a requirement for you to have fun and be able to do so much with space; just gives you an idea how much content there is.

Oh and the side point is...if you do well enough at the start and get established and have enough time to play the game, you can play for free once you earn enough in-game currency to buy time codes. (Takes minimum about 2-3 initial subscriptions worth as well as the 21 day trials offered by steam). There is also an out-of-game events calender, email and very extensive forum.

If any folks want to try the game my advice is the first thing you do is read a little about it on the eve wiki, and its own forums. Once you start a trial its best to find a good corporation that teaches newcomers about the game (ie guild). A good place to start is EvE University. I've linked a few good pages to look at:

    http://www.eve-wiki.net/index.php?title=Main_Page (info about eve)

    http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Main_Page (eve uni main page)

http://www.eveonline.com/en/incarna/features (info about the latest patch)

    https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=topics&f=265 (recuitment forum)

Any questions about how to get into EvE, feel free to ask!

ps. you can start as many trials as you wish.

I used to play EVE about a year ago, but found it quite difficult to find a decent corp and eventually gave up on the game, seeing this Incarna expansion and SirFur's posts, I think I'm going to dabble in it again.

So, a few questions if you will...

Any advice for a returning player?
    Any good UK Corp reccomendations?
    Is there a Bit-Tech Corp?

So you stopped playing before Incursion was released? If so, have incrusions which are sanaha live events that you join up with other piolts to stop there invasion.
Learning skills have been removed, will have the SP to put into any skills you want.
New Char creator, so no more 2d picture.
    Noctis- salvaging ship introduced.

    Incarna
Captins quaters- most people have it turned off and have the door isntead- ship spinning is due to come back soon.
Turrets got a 2nd redesign and Maller got a new skin

That was incrna, not really a eve expansion to do stuff in. Hoping for the Winter expansion to get back on track again.

As for UK corps best to post in the corp recuitment thread in the new eve forums, say what sp u have what u are looking for ie high sec/0.0 etc, should get a few offers.

I believe there was/is a custom pc corp may still be going.

just to add whats been mentioned already...

    1. short attention span will bite u in the balls with Eve. get off ur meds, then come back. else it could be a very very frustrating experience.

    2. i disagree to whoever said 'its a game that evolves around ur life, not the other way around like most game'. it is only true if u have the discipline and patience to do it. if ur the head of ur life. the captain of u ship. then go ahead. if not, the game will draw u closer, suck u deeper, and drain ur lifeforce faster than the shaman in Diablo3.

A good place to start is to return to your original character that you used first...even if you don't like the name. The avatar you can now change and it'll be full length body avatar.

The reason I say this is it will make looking for a corp so much easier....many people especially the good corps are wary of folks who are brand spanking new....because EvE is very open and free world...folks create new characters all the time for purposes of spying and in-game piracy and politics....so sometimes its hard to get anywhere if they feel you know too much about the game as young character. As an older character your employment history is helpful and can make things work more easily.

I suggest two things...one is EvE University - its a large EvE corp run by volunteers and people who enjoy teaching new comers...they will help you a lot to get back into the basics.

I also suggest my alliance...but I cannot make any promises as I am out of game...they will interview you as with any other place, but mention my name; that will at least make them take you more seriously. If you PM me I will give you a codeword the folks will recognise as being from me and not you pretending... :p

Thats not ture. The game is so big that its difficult at first to know what it actually is all about...end-game wise.

This is true...it is very addictive...

I actually had my interview for E-UNI today, happily I was accepted and am in the process of hauling all my stuff to Aldrat. Forgot how engrossing this game is. Even mining some asteroids for a couple of hours feels like im making an impression on my future finances.

Really liking the new avatars, potraits and character models too. Cant wait to get back into the swing of things!

    Good for you!

Hope things work out for ye but as I said E-UNI is the best for getting into EvE quickly with lots of un-biased support and help.

Don't forget about my folks either once you get back into it after some time with E-UNI.

DO NOT, under any circumstance name yourself Otto Kretschmer, build a stealth bomber, name it the S.S Jew Smasher and sail around space living out Silent Hunter and Das Boot fantasies in your mind, all the while screaming Nazi war slogans, in German for that pure authentic touch[its not appreciated] in the main chat room. Just dont do it.

Having said that, after a couple of months you should be can flipping and ninja salvaging in no time!

That suck but you will discover that if you find a good group of friends to play with, people who will all work together for a common goal, 800 mill is nothing.

One day (in my earlier days of eve) I was flying a Mammoth (Minmatar cargo ship) with four or five really expensive mining ships (Mackinaws for those of you who play) and I was ganked.. it was about a 1.3 billion isk drop at the time.

Sure it was tough to have that happen but you have to take it as a learning experience. Just like in real life. If you drive through Detroit with a Lamborghini your asking for it..

In a sandbox game like this their are risks and rewards for every action in this case they saw I had a very expensive cargo I was flying around with. That was the reward. The risk was, could they one shot me before Concord (the high-sec police force) came in and destroyed their ship.

What I learned from this is to look into what other people "can" do. The thing I did wrong was I was in a ship with only 5000 or so effective hit points so I could easily be killed if what I had was worth more than what they would have to lose to kill me (when concord comes to blow them up)

Now I fly around with a minimum of 12K EHP and if I'm carrying anything more than 200mill id probably use a larger hauler like a freighter to avoid the situation.

After it was all said and done we went to work and earned that 1.3 billion back in a single day with about ten mining vessels and a dedicated Orca to make things go faster.

Eve really is a community game. It has won a few community based awards even I believe.

Heh kinda true. Its more like the easy unrewarding way or the harder more rewarding way. A lot like the wild west.

I spent many hours playing hi sec games and am just now getting into the low sec side of the game.. all i can say so far is that is by far the most adrenalin intensive pvp system I have experienced. I love and hate it at the same time. : )

It by far is...that adrenaline pump is pretty big and is derived from the fact that you are not going to respawn and start up again as you were before...you WILL lose assets and you will not have a recover point if you get killed...so it makes it all the more 'REAL' and in a fight your desire to live and fight feels more personal and more important, than any other game I have played.

There is no going back or repeating the scenario with a different tactic...everu scenario turns out different and you won't get a second chance. Its one of the reasons why EvE has such a difficult initial learning curve and why folks who don;t get in with a good crowd initially struggle and end up leaving the game, without them ever actually getting into it properly....

Was downloading the free trial but after finding out the monthly sub is 14 quid, just lol..

No wonder people dont stick it out, that is a little o.t.t for a game sub that will cost the best part of 60 notes to even begin to understand...

Is it part intentional to keep youngsters away perhaps?

That sub is pretty standard. FOr the first month it is a little higher as you 'buy' the game as well. Subsequent monthly costs via GTC payments is around £11-12. The game isn't meant to be hard, but it is actually a very huge game and its end-game side of things takes about 1-2 years to fully get into it. To be able to fly the biggest and most powerful ships takes nearly 2 years if you dedicate yourself to that goal, as you of course need the money to afford it.

However, the end-game side of things is huge. Each area of EvE is very big, and this is very it is difficult at the start to fully get into it because at the start things are slower paced. IF you expect to be a badass in a few months with expensive ships, it is entirely possible but requires a lot of game time. However, you can easily get into the game very easily at low level and low skill aspects of the game, but means you need a good corporation to be a part of and get involved with. If you download/activate via steam they offer a 21 day trial. And you can try as many trials as you wish, and re-use your initial as long as you remember to delete your character that you created.

Within a few months...about x3 monthly payments+21day trial you can get easily make yourself a regular income that will enable you to use in-game currency to pay for the monthly game time code. Expect to play the game for at least one month to get a good handle on most aspects, and around 3 months to start getting reasonable/good at a few things. If you are good at games you can get good at different areas quite quickly. This game does require brain power as its a full complete space sandbox, and the game lets you do almost anything you want in its world.

I guess I'm comparing to wow as the only other MMO played for any duration (played lotro too). They compared in price to a certain degree.

Felt like I was punched in the face when I read 15 euro a month. Paying with in game credits is viable then? That would soften the blow a little.

Does that not mean you suffer ingame though if you using your in game income to pay your subs? How much is money a factor in development?

So today I sold off my oxytope stockpile, decided to jump into my hi-sec jump clone and head on out with a few buddies.

Had a blast suiciding a few miners to scrub off my sec status, as there are no penalties for large fleet fights. What I am excited about is the up coming fights in delve (I am a member of the CFC) as we have pretty much decided evoke need to get out for crashing dudes en-mass to avoid a fight. That crap has to stop. The winter is coming, my nagalfar is eager to get dropped on someone's face after the recent changes on sisi went live (9k dps moros anyone?) I am really excited to have some decent cap/subcap brawls soon.

I am also kinda annoyed some lowsec rper guy petitioned my mains name, forcing a change, wiping my kb history (I am on a few scap km's) which is annoying.

Eve is everything you make it, eeking a life out in hi-sec scrabbling about, or brawling in nullsec using industry to fuel your corp's war efforts.
