    Article on Digital Foundry...

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-battlefield-3-pc-hardware

Little oversimplified especially the CPU part...

Wonder how many 'drop-in replacements' are going to take place on the strength of this article? Can picture it now, removing the cooler 'drop-in' the CPU whilst they look at the old goo on the original CPU with puzzlement. Replace cooler and cook! :D

Also what's the deal with 15GB install from disc but 10GB going the digital route?

see how it says in the image that the hex core amd phenom (deneb) and the 2600k would run it well the 2600k would but hexcore ain't that great for gaming i mean even those Phenom X4's acheive slightly higher framerates

also have you seen the EULA for all EA stuff for origin etc, ea get to see everything we have installed on our pc and they can give it to any of there marketing friends and they say they check if you have any illegal games, software installed...

If this is true I won't be getting BF3 if I have to have origin to run it. Isn't BF3 going to be available on steam anyway?

You agree that EA may collect, use, store and transmit technical and related information that identifies your computer (including the Internet Protocol Address), operating system, Application usage (including but not limited to successful installation and/or removal), software, software usage and peripheral hardware, that may be gathered periodically to facilitate the provision of software updates, dynamically served content, product support and other services to you, including online services. EA may also use this information combined with personal information for marketing purposes and to improve our products and services. We may also share that data with our third party service providers in a form that does not personally identify you. IF YOU DO NOT WANT EA TO COLLECT, USE, STORE, TRANSMIT OR DISPLAY THE DATA DESCRIBED IN THIS SECTION, PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL OR USE THE APPLICATION.

In baby words, by installing Origin you are allowing EA to share all your PC software activity, and as we know we're required to have it to play BF3.

wont be on steam but hopefully they will change there minds

Also wasn't it the Sims that refused to play if you had Alcohol copy software installed? That was also an EA game!

My laptop's 460M is just barely above the minimum spec :(. Guess I'm not playing it on native 1920x1080 T_T. Then again, I don't even play BC2 on native resolution :p. When they say minimum and recommended specs they should include what monitor resolution they're talking about since that has a huge impact on fps.

Regarding EA and data collection, I'm not too worried about that. Unless EA is like facebook and will track you even when you're logged out (in the case of a desktop client, if you don't have the client running in the background) I should be fine since, I only turn it on when I'm going to game, and it's off and exited completely at all other times (I do the same with steam). Origin is only for BF3 for me, and it's only because Amazon had an awesome presale (30% off before launch!). Besides, if I let EA collect some information about me and their ads get even better (you can't dispute the fact that EA's BF3 ads were pretty good) maybe I won't be so opposed to watching them :p.

Well I'm sorry EA won;t be getting any money from me....this is almost akin to hacking software...I do not want that kind of program at all on my system.

At least steam only monitors your game usage and not your entire effing system...(which I want it to as I like knowing how much I've played). Steam is pretty great for me and well if BF3 has to require origin then no thanks, I don't care how great this game is. Didn't Bit-tech do a review of Origin about how 'we need it'...didn't they know about this clause?

Having said that, I've never properly looked at the Steam T&C for a while...I started up years ago and back then it was quite simple in comparison to how big it is now. Afaik steam is far more less invasive than Origin looks like its going to be.

PS. ANd regarding BF3 not being on steam...what about exisiting EA games? WIll they be be removed from steam like Crysis 2 was? I hope there aren't too many new games from EA that I might want to play as with the way things are sounding I'm not going to be going anywhere near origin.

I wonder will someone find a way to cripple the snooping ability of origin. Digital eye goughing origin in a sandbox? I live in hope ;)

EA are frighteningly like Facebook, they make massive revenues from Facebook games and selling analytical data for marketing. Probably never gonna change your life one way or the other agreeing to any of there demands. But still, id much rather i could sell them my data instead.

I uninstalled Origin the moment I realized the Beta was over. Knowing this, it won't go back on my system.

From scouting round other forums, I'm not sure I've came across a game so hyped about hardware before. Seems this game is going to make the hardware manufacturers an absolute fortune! Think Dice are taking backhanders personally :)

    Origin and BF3 hardware

Hmm, I'm not much of an Origin fan myself, but I don't really mind it. I don't have Steam and so can't compare the two but they seem similar to me. And about the the data collection, I'm not too worried. As I see it, there are already quite a few 'services' or programs or whatever that collect a lot more data than I would like, so despite it being bad, I'm not overly worried about Origin doing it.

And back on topic... I'm planning on getting a GTX 560ti, I'm hoping this will run BF3 on high at 1920x1080. My CPU is at the moment only an E8400, and I'm wondering how much of a performance increase I'd get by upgrading that to say, a Phenom II 955. Help would be appreciated :)

Origin (computer making company) needs to start making computers and advertising them as for Origin (EA game distribution center) games :D.

Is it bad that I'm tempted to draw up very elaborate plans to assassinate the CEO of EA just to see how much they're snooping?
