Hmmm wonder if he's going to make his own mobo and cpu too, seems to be doing everything else from scratch :D

Fantastic work Riek, really fantastic :)

    Yep I think so :)

    Cheers L1U :thumb:

    Thanks NaloaC :)

Yeah lol :D, that would be insane

I haven't had access to machines today so I started experimenting with paint for the waterblock, I've managed to come up with this:

Here it is in normal day light:

    And then under UV:

The black also shines if the UV LED's are at the right angle:

What do you think??? cool or just weird :D

do you think the yellow background matches the rest of the case? I'd rather go with some very light blue background vs black top layer

Awesome looking! isn't that a bit messy as opposed to the rest of the fantastic clean lines of your design?
    That might work perfectly though...

You mentionned anodizing the Res: ANODIZE ALL THE THINGS!!!

Well he is going to have yellow-green UV liquid in the case.

Here's my opinion: Looks cool, but weird, and doesn't fit the theme. I'd rather morror polish the waterblocks.

Both :hehe: definitely a cool effect, would it be too much work to make 2, 1 polished & 1 with this effect to see if it works in this sweet build :) 50/50 if it might work nicely I think.

Personally I don't really like it but considering how you've had the perfect vision and creative instincts so far I am certainly not going to dispute your judgement :)

Was it always your plan that the paint should have that crackling effect?

    Cheers peteski :thumb:

The bottom part of the pump cant be anodized as I will be using liquid polyurethane to seal the LED's in and it will stick much better without the anodizing, I'm then gonna put JB weld over the rubber to double seal them, I will then use a enamel paint to cover the inside part that will be exposed to the coolant, as all that is required to prevent copper corroding aluminium is to prevent electrical conductivity between the two metals.

    Cheers Cheapskate :thumb:

Thanks Sarakon :) glad to here you like it :thumb:

Yeah I chose that colour for that reason, answer to paint is below VV

Yep it was my plan :), its actually just a single special black paint that does that effect called Distress crackle paint by Ranger.

Yeah I suppose it doesn't quite fit the theme of case, I actually managed to find a way of giving the router on my CNC a proper collet to hold end mills with it being really expensive so I'm gonna re-make the waterblock with the CNC and give it an acrylic top, as the one I made manually isn't a smooth enough finish and I don't have a sand blaster to smooth out all the hard to get to small areas, and it will just look more professional :), I can then either anodize it or nickel plate it although that is more specialist I think.

I will be uploading the next update tomorrow, hopefully I'll get the new waterblock done and finish the pump.

Do share how to use endmills on a router please :) I'll be getting a router for my next tool for some free hand milling if I can control it well enough :D, if not then I'll be making lots of jigs or a bit of both :).

Free hand sounds a bit difficult, but good luck :), to use end mills I bought a 1/2 inch shank ER16 collect extension, then I cut the shank down to the required size with a cut off disc on an angle grinder:

That way its cheap and easy to get the milling bits in as ER16 collets are cheap. I also use Carbide bits with WD40 that way the heat doesn't build up.

As for the next update I've changed the 2D file to include curves now as its gonna be CNC'ed:

I had everything ready to go and then the power went off and still hasn't come back on :wallbash:, could have been worse I suppose, it might have gone mid way through the toolpath.

Yesterday I milled out a horse shoe shape channel into the bottom of the pump housing and drilled through 3 holes for some UV LED's:

I then got some LED's ready to go into the holes:

I then glued the LED's in with polyurethane liquid rubber and JB welded the wires into the channels, I will JB weld over the LED's too once I've made sure no more rubber is required to get a seal:

I also gave the top side a coating of enamel:

I'll mask off the center and give the channel around the edge a good spraying after its set.
