Guys, Been running my "ol.Northy" on the single core prog. for a year 24/7 but now have a "dual core" with a 8800gs running now --no clients installed yet. want to run the v.7 client but I remember Chris Lewis saying that he wont install v.7 till its out of beta. I want to go ahead now but i dont, want problems---i,m too old for problems!!! Is it ok to go ahead or will i fall into a black hole with it.---It does seem an easy install. Any helpful tips and hints would be really appreciated.
I have used the v7 client. Worked fine, fairly easy to use, but now i use the GPU Tracker v2, it is easier to use and I like the interface better, as well as not having to run another program to tell you the ppd. With the v7 client you can still add in extra flags but have to type in your options in the appropriate areas, GPUT2 it is all tick boxes for your options. Give them both a try and see which one you like, as everyone is different.
Didn't know about that one, been using the v7 client for a while now & haven't had any problems, gonna give this one a blast and see how it goes.
Thanks for that Leroyingo & Toga-- yeh been following tracker v2 as well and one minute going to install it and then i change my mind again and go with the intention of installing v.7. I suppose I,m dithering somewhat and should just jump in and install one like wots been said and see if alls well for me., After all I,ve got a great help resource on this site god knows i,ve read enough posts on here since i started a year and a bit ago. Do like the tick box idea though.
Don't let my grumpy-old-manishness stop you experimenting, I simply don't have the time and energy to deal with beta releases and their possible strange behaviour.
If you don't want problems then don't run beta software it's as simple as that. I would give GPU tracker a go if you don't want to try the standard SMP and GPU clients (which are not difficult to configure IMO).
Thanks guys then, It looks like I,ll start with Tracker v.2 then and just see how it goes for now !! Fingers crossed then. Thanks for all your input.
Gave the tracker a go over the weekend & liked it quite a bit, but it doesn't look like I've been credited for the completed work units :/ Letting it finish the current lot & I'll see if it credits me for these. I think the v7 client will still be better for me anyway since it seems to only take 1325 point wu's, which is ideal for me since I can only fold while I'm at work & it finished 4 in the exact time I'm out of the house, whereas the tracker takes much larger units which don't quite fit into my schedule. So I prefer the way the tracker works, but just for me personally the v7 client is more suitable.
a point? i have been using the tracker jobby. Have tried to use the standford version twice now, but it seems unable to correctly detect my mixed GPUs to fold with them properly. Is there any point in trying to get it working points wise? I mean do you get more points for working with the BETA program? If not think i will stay with the tracker until they sort its issues out. Any help received with thanks, Loons
There shouldnt be any difference which client you use. They are just a different interface to using the console client. Has anyone found otherwise? If the tracker works for your GPUs then use it.
