It needs to be UV mapped, so the area of the object is effectively projected onto a 2D texture.

It makes for an excellent wallpaper. But if I may make a humble suggestion, I'd make the starry background a bit brighter (and perhaps the sky a bit more dark blue) and make the moon more glowy and a light source. I would give the main light source a slightly warmer glow. But that's just me. :p

Thank you for responding. I'm a bit confused by the process though - did you output the shape for the texture with the 3d program and then edit in photoshop (what I'd like to do) or did you create the texture just by thinking about the shape (what I'm doing) and then use the UV mapping method to apply it to your object?

Thanks again. I hope my question makes some sort of sense.

    You have several options :

    - You create the texture and then you set your UV coordinate by using the UV mapping tool of your 3D software

    - You set your UV coordinate by using the UV mapping tool of your 3D software and then you use a feature that creates a texture with you faces visible in it (see below). You can then paint your texture in photoshop

    - You set your UV coordinate by using the UV mapping tool of your 3D software and then you directly paint on the object (not available on all soft)

Thank you. I will look into how Cinema 4D handles these things but you all have given me a great starting point for my research.

My teacher told me people don't model real cars much anymore, I guess I was just fact checking. :)

Just a few sneaky renders of a project I have in the works.

(As usual all designs are copyright 2011 Aurora Design Studio)

Should try make the wooden floor panels a little larger for scale? Little bit generic in design to claim patent? little bit like the ipod/ samsung fiasco?
Should try a newer render engine, kerkythea? If you like that you may like thea (same developer). Bit more up to date.

Floor was just a default for the floor, was a quick render :)
As I said, It's a work in progress, hard to get any unique design on such a small box! IIRC thea costs money.. something I'm severely lacking in :/

Matheux this is a dumb idea, but have you though about making it in kit ? This would allow customers to buy, for example, a grey floor + white chassis + pink top.
