Anyone else interested in this new tablet? I think it looks amazing on paper - quad-core Tegra 3, 12 hour battery life, keyboard dock (very important for me) and a fantastic screen. I'm going to wait till I can play with one in a store before buying though. Questions for Bindi (assuming you're not bound by any NDA): 1) Is a 3G model planned for release next year? 2) Will it ship with Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box? 3) What's the score on UK release date/pricing?
1) 3G models are planned afaik but it depends on regional carriers. This one is totally unknown to me as it depends on the sales team and their contracts. 2) It won't ship with ICS out the box, but it will be upgradable for free (same on current Transformer). As you can imagine it takes time to get the unique dock and dual battery setup coded properly and ICS has only been available to download a couple of weeks for everyone but Samsung. 3) UK release/pricing will be announced by UK team Some regions are getting it in December but I would expect volume in Jan.
Thanks for your help! I just found this video of Nvidia demoing the Prime running ICS (note the butter smooth UI due to proper hardware acceleration in Android): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tAwHCDq-94&feature=youtube_gdata_player Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Aye, It looks very very good. As much as i like Android, i would be tempted to give Windows 8 a whirl on it. Bindi, will you be able to send me one, to you know.... Test? Sam
Glad to hear ICS will be available on original transformer too, I was starting (still have) serious upgrade envy for the new prime, but cant justify upgrading a 6 month old piece of kit I'm still using daily just to stroke my e-peen. If you're in the market for a tablet/netbook though, i cant recommend the original highly enough, so the prime is just going to be even better
Ebay! Forums Marketplace! For those not buying in December - you might also want to wait to see what we have in store at CES in early Jan
Your right on the r3loaded, I would hazard a guess it's for the 16gb model, but still. I hope John Lewis will be stocking it, as i will be able to use staff Discount, Which will be handy, because i'm also planning on moving to a John Lewis branch, meaning i will only sell this over the iPad, mwhahaha. Sam
Ah, your right fella, which makes it even better value. And for those of you in the states, it's now available for pre-order: http://www.tgdaily.com/consumer-ele...sus-transformer-prime-opens-up-for-pre-orders Sam
Yup, the Prime is our new premium range. The 16GB version will, for now, be covered by the original Transformer. Both will co-exist for a short while until the TF101 is replaced Here is the US/Canada pre-order info page: http://asustablets.us/ http://promos.asus.com/US/EeePadTransformerPrime/WTB.html
I really am looking forward to this coming out, quick question regarding the build though. When the tablet is docked and folded like a laptop, is there anything to protect the tablet (i.e. rubber feet) from the keyboard?
Just anywhere on the dock, to protect the screen from being pressed against the keys. Similar to the way you have them on the bezel of normal laptops (except this would of course look silly on a tablet).
Richard, i don't know if you or Asus know, but the Transformer TF101 has won 3 awards over at Trusted Reviews. Best Tablet of the Year Best Laptop of the Year Product of the Year That's bloody impressive. Sam
