this reminds me of my Nes pc mod, i took everything out put a P4 1gb board with a geforce 6200 graphics card and got a usb to nes port adaptor, then installed a nes emulator and pluged a nes controller in and played nes games.... feel like i wasted my money now lol

Little bit of an update for you all :)

I've had a little bit of trouble with the motherboard, and i have since discovered that it does not have a sata drive port.
So, the only realistic option without having a useless old SSD which acer used to fit these boards with is to boot a USB drive..

Anyway, the top and bottom of it is that im going to lose my UBUNTU virginity!
Ill pop it on a usb flash drive, (2GB) to start off with and then at a later date make the drive bigger..

Ill post back in a few hours with the OS running on it! (Hopefully)

    Merry christmas!

I have another update for you all,

I have a little confession to make though, when i was doing this stage i forgot to take any pictures when i was doing it so here is what i have done :)

As you can see, i have put the USB's in the memory card slots, gluing them in securely ;) (Probably too securely :L)
I have also cut the side out of the bottom plastic plate so that the I/O can be accessed from the outside, pictured here:
Here's the USB's inside the Memory Card slot, the fitted in surprisingly well!
View from the I/O side, doesnt look too bad.
Again from the I/O side, but this time with the case on, i think its quite discreet, which is how i wanted it..

So the things left to do are:

Get the power button connected to the power button on the board,
Buy a battery, (Only maybe though, as it would mean cutting the back of the PS1 open)
Put a DVD drive in it

And thats about it, i think :L

I think the next update will be next week sometime..

Oh, once i have finished this, would anyone like to have it as a swap for anything cool?
I haven't really got a use for it..

I'm not sure if these netbooks are the same, but my old Eee PC 901 didn't have SATA ports, instead using Mini PCIe SSD cards which could be adapted to become SATA controllers. Might be worth checking on eBay =)

The keyboard and mouse that ive got coming are very similar to the apple keyboard and mouse, i wanted to keep a white theme as the PS1 is white/grey.. they are also very small so they can be put away easily.

Once they come, ill post a video of it near completion!

Linux Mint is running on this as well now, i prefer it to ubuntu..

I think that's about it on the update front, ill post back when the bits get here! (They are coming from hong kong, so expect about a week now?)

You have to applaud any one who attempts a mod, putting a PC into something that was never designed to have one is so addictive, when ever I see some old junk electronic thing I firstly think oh what spares or materials can I get from it, and then secondly can I fit a PC inside it and would it then look cool ?.

There is something attractive about hardware with PC's inside when it's not supposed to be there.

I really want to see final pictures.

I tried to fit pc into PS3 (fat), but mATX MBO is too large for that.

Got a little update for you all,

The first thing is that the keyboard has come!
    Without flash:

It works beautifully with the playstation, glad i got it!
I thought id show you a picture of where i plan to use it the most, on my bedside table!
You will probably see that it is running ubuntu, thats because i somehow managed to break the file with linux mint on, ill try it again some other time!

Finally, I have a friend who likes to mess around editing images and he sent me his latest creation today,
    [IMG]
    Pretty cool, Eh?

Anyway, ill post back when the mouse comes, hopefully that will be a bigger update.

You'll all be pleased to hear, the DVD drive is ordered!
Along with another PS1 to USB converter (This is the third one now, hope i don't break it!)
Also, I'm currently bidding on two DualShock (original) controllers, so hopefully ill get them.

The mouse is here too, but i haven't posted about it, so it'll be a bumper update!

Well, you be pleased to hear, the controllers and the DVD drive are here!
And what an update i have for you all..

Firstly, i'd just like to point out that i have ordered the wrong type of converter (i ordered the memory card converter) so ill send it back and get the one that i actually want, so that can come in another update :)

    Anyway, on with the pictures!

This is all of the bits that ive received, although my camera angle is a bit shoddy.
Controller 2, (Controller 1 is in bits) Note, Its controller 2 because it is missing the rubber bits on the analog sticks.
    The DVD drive, pre demolished.
Top of the drive, its quite a sleek and cute product really ;)
Controller 1, ready to be cleaned, (In its current demolished stage)..
The DVD drive plugged into my desktop, just to check it works. :p
    [IMG]
What i was looking for, the little peice of plastic that makes it distinguish between the lid beind down and not, just thought i'd try it (With nearly slicing my hand with the disk..) This DVD drive will be much easier than i thought!
The drive not spinning, showing that my posh-screwdriver theory works! (Note the amazing ITV series 'Ultimate Force' in the drive!)
    Anyway, ill take it apart!
With the rubber pads removed, im unscrewing it..
Back cover off, The actual Disk drive unit is very small, i think i could use it in a Mini-ITX version! ;)
The unit separated from the plastic, just showing how thin it is!
The plastic leftovers, really dont know why i took this.
I did try and get a picture of the actual unit running without the plastic casing, but as i am not vishnu, and i dont have 6 arms, i couldnt get a picture.

Ill post back soon, with what ive come up with so far in getting it fitted into the PlayStation!

Okay then, so i finally got round to putting the DVD drive into the PlayStation!

Again, i forgot to take any pictures when i was doing it..

Anyway, so i got my dremel out, and cut out parts of where the original CD drive was, i had a little trouble getting the actual drive in, because it had be level.
So after a lot of dremelling and gluing, i have finally got it in, and it works! :p

    Here it is, without flash:
    With flash:
    Here's the underneath,
    [IMG]
Note the drilled hole on the first two pictures, that is where the sensor is for making the disk run, ill put a peice of metal or plastic on the lid of the drive to get it to work when the lid is down..

Oh, i have also realised that i still havent taken a picture of the mouse, so here it is!
    And next to the keyboard:

Ill be back (in the words of darth vader)
