Hi people I'm hoping someone can help!!

I have just received an HP ML310 G3, after some tinkering I got it started and booting by removing a defective RAM stick, shut it down and went to bed. The day after it will not power on at all!
motherboard has a green light and the power light on the front is solid amber which is normal

    so far I have tried:
    removing and replacing RAM
    tried a different PSU
    disconnecting everything one by one
disconnecting the power lead and holding the power button down for a min or two

All with no joy it sits there tormenting me!

Any ideas are welcome please any advice!!

    Thanks in advance

Was it working when you received it?

no, was turning on but not booting to OS, removed a RAM stick and that worked fine, starting using it and then shut it down for the night, returned the following day and nothing since

is it that it will not power up at all or do the fans spin then nothing? or power slightly and fail? or something else?

was given to me used, had not been on for 6 months prior but last person said was working fine.
No power at all, motherboard light is green and light on front is amber. no fans spinning no life at all. was starting to think maybe the mobo is dead but is shows a slight sign of light in that the light is on green when power is connected

Aye I'd say mobo or PSU, Try pulling the PSU out and giving it a clean on the contacts. Unless its not a removable PSU in which case that server really isn't worth saving.

    Could be the switch itself?
Normally with the HP servers... even if the board is knackered it'll power up the fans at full pelt and stay at full pelt.. not do nothing at all....

I haven't tried playing with the switch/button itself yet, I will try this evening and post my findings
knowing my luck with this thing its probably the switch

Does the power button click when pushed?
Is everything 100% in the correct place (especially memory in the correct channels)?
Is the PSU in the correct slow at the back?
Is it still showing the orange light?
Have you pulled the CMOS battery & left it for an hour (unplugged from the mains as well)?

thanks have come across that link before which led me to believe it might be the switch but haven't tried anything yet.
It has an amber light on the front which is the standard standby light i assume and the mobo light appears green inside with power hooked up so all seems good inside.
I also removed everything one by one and replaced one by one and still the same.
