Hi guys my nephews laptop has packed in (motherboard knackered) is there any way i can retrieve all his family and friends photo's... thanks guys
Remove HDD and plug into another PC, should show up as a slave without any issue. Probably can be removed with just a screw or two underneath.
EDIT: Ninja'd If the laptop is screwed I'd take the drive out and see what can be done from there. I would imagine it can be hooked up to your desktop like any other drive.
Like the others have said, if it is sata, then just connect it to a desktop sata data and power ports, job done. I would recommend one of these (USB to SATA+2.5/3.5IDE) though, its probably my most used bit of tech when recovering and fixing computers, very handy.
Buy a Sharkroon! Never let me down works with all hard disks big or small (desktop or laptop) http://www.scan.co.uk/products/sharkoon-quickport-combo-esata-and-front-pata-port-takes-sata-drives-25-35-combo
Could have saved £25 by getting the eBay jobby, they both do the same job. But as long as it sorts your problem I suppose!
Makes you realise how useful switching 2.5" HDDs to SATA was for moments like this! I hope you get all your photos etc off ok!
I've used that machine so many times I cant even count. Saves buying different caddies for different disks you know you've always got a universal one in the cupboard for future use! Goes every job with me )
