So any bets on how long the company will last? (The GAME division anyway.)

but have you noticed that it's only on-line retailers that are being shown - seems no high street stores will be selling it. Read the comment on the EA page -

"If you have placed a deposit for a pre-order or are uncertain that your existing pre-order will be guaranteed, please contact your local retailer.

Your local retailer is doing everything possible to make this process as smooth as possible to ensure you get your copy on launch day."

Seems that EA are preventing high-street stores from selling and only allowing on-line stores to sell the physical disc

I feel for the people who had it cancelled on them :( Imagine all the unhappy souls who wake up on the morning of March 9th and realise "Oh it was cancelled :(" It'll be like waking up on christmas to a burning christmas tree.

Or is that just me who'd feel like that? ;L Praise Origin. Two words I thought i'd never say.

I feel sorry for those who are at work/away and come home find their order has been cancelled, and find all the alternatives are sold out

Welp ordered the PS3 N7 edition from Amazon, right after I was talking about how it wasn't really worthwhile to my flatmate. £5 cheaper than it was at Game and I'm not supporting the monopolization of collectors' content they had going on.

Now to actually finish my playthrough of ME2 :D

This is serious news, seems like EA have finally cut their credit line with GAME. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-02-29-game-not-stocking-mass-effect-3-or-ea-games-past-ssx
Apparently they won't be taking Mario 9 either, suggesting Nintendo may have chopped them as well. Shares are down 16%+

Game are in serious trouble and there is a very good chance they will go into admin soon.

They recently renegotiated their bank loans and a number of game publishers have worked with them to ensure that the only specialist video game chain in the UK stays afloat. Let's remember that without Game on the high street, videogaming itself will lose out - with far less exposure to the typical person in the street, video games will once again start to seem like a less legitimate form of entertainment in the eyes of many.

During the last few months, music and film publishers have bent over backwards to try and help HMV for the same reasons. HMV have made it clear that games publishers have been far less helpful.

In the end I suspect it is a case of some of the larger publishers (EA, Nintendo, Ubisoft) doing some calculations and deciding that the damage done by losing legitimacy on the high street is outweighed by the fact that they can get rid of the largest player in the "pre-owned" market.

It's a dangerous game to play. While pre-owned takes money from the publishers (in their minds) it does free gamers cash up to buy new games. With a reduced pre-owned market there will be far less people willing or able to buy full-priced releases.

The economics are simple. Game is financially right on the edge...they need pre-owned. The big publishers won't help without getting a cut from those pre-owned sales, but Game simply can't afford to give it to them. Without all the pre-owned profits Game will fail. Without help from the big publishers to get over this hurdle, Game will die. Without Game publishers will be fine for the big releases but will struggle very badly with any other release.

Without game, the pre-owned market will (at the very least) have reduced value for the consumer (less competition) and the consumer will, consequently, have far less money for buying new games.

Without Game, publishers will have to try and get the other players on the high street to stock their goods. That's pretty much the supermarkets - who have limited shelf space and no desire or need to keep a diverse selection of games.

There is an argument that gamers are adequately served by on-line retailers. And they are. But mums, dads, aunties, grandads, etc looking for a present for little Johnny?

Personally I have to say I've never really liked Game - far too corporate and money grabbing. I won't be sorry to see them disappear off the high street.

But unless a new chain replaces them quickly, the industry will learn the power of perception. Because having a "corporate" presence on every high street legitimises our treasured pass-time in a way that's hard to explain to those who didn't grow up in the eighties when playing video games meant you were abnormal. And nobody encourages their loved-one in an abnormal pass-time.

Eww, digital collectors. I don't think I could've done that, I'd rather buy the standard then get the DLC on launch day.

EA has added more stores to the list of CE suppliers including good ol' sainsburys. Take a look :)

BTW sainsburys seems to be the only store that has the xbox version if anyone is interested. PC seems to be sold out everywhere, including gamestop.ie.

Must have got another batch in then, which doesn't surprise me considering the screw up. Yesterday they were all out! Mines still on order with Gamestop.ie, which according to them, their N7 editions come with the N7 warfare pack. Don't if i believe them or not though.

It's bad that EA decided to still have preorder bonuses, they should have allowed everyone to have the N7 warfare pack in the UK, considering what has happened imo.
