On todays update Im going to construct the leg flares/counter measures that come out of his upper thigh. Ill scratch build this using 00.80 styrene, red LEDS and a few products form Evergreen Styrene.

    Lets get started

Im going to start with a 3 1/2 inch ABS plumbing fixture, red LEDS and a panel of v-groove by Evergreen Styrene.

After marking out the areas for the LEDS, I use my drill press to cut out each hole and secure the v-groove with weld-on adhesive.

I use round stock by Evergreen Styrene that I shape with my heat gun and glue into place.

I add a paint finish using Flat Black/Gunmetal on the v-groove and Flat Aluminum on the small gears.

I secured the LEDS with a strip of hot glue.

The top and bottom panels are constructed and will be painted with a red metal flake.

The flares will be attached to the back panel once I completed the leg armor that goes underneath.

The panel is build from several layers of ABS/Styrene.

    http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/k531/BlueHorseStudios/DSC00380.jpg

Masked off and painted with the first coats of color.

The first coats are applied, now ill detail the gears with a fine brush.

I mock-up the panel to see if everything is fitting correctly.

In this wide shot you can see the missile systems too.

The 12v wires leadind to the LEDs are sleeved in Kobra sleeving and passed thru the case door. The two 3/4 inch screws holds the flares in place.

I added a paint graphic on the interior door panel.

The 12v wire leds to the molex hub that I scratch build and painted. The cable tie-downs are made from round stock and ABS plastic and secure with epoxy to the panel.

With the overhead lights in the shop cut down you can see the LED illuminated.

On my next update Ill start on Iron Mans Helm that will be mounted on the front bezel.

I got started today by tearing down the chassis and prepping for paint. The concept for the interior is to paint it like the Mark 1 suit seen in the above pic.

    http://mnpctech.com

I received these copper rivets from mnpctech that Ill use to put the chassis back together. The copper combined with the steel, alloy and aluminum will create the feel of the Mark 1 suit Tony Stark built while in captivity.

I painted the back panel in a red metal flake from Duplicolor, and Gold leaf from Tamiya.

The chassis is painted in gunmetal also from Duplicolor.

The colors really complement each other well and will be sprayed with a clear coat in a later process.

I sanded down the black powdered coat to bare metal and sprayed it with a flat steel from Duplicolor.

The same process was also applied to the motherboard tray with graphic and weathering added.

I used vinyl graphic letters to create the stencil and sprayed it over with a flat black with my airbrush

After the panels have dried from the sealer , Ill reassemble and add some touch-up and graphics to the chassis.

    AWESOME Ron!

and Great use for the pop rivets! I'm planning the same thing for upcoming project that will emulate steel riveted plating. Paint alone, wouldn't give it that realism I'm going for :thumb: ...and carriage bolt heads are great too...

The copper rivets look amazing against the gunmetal finish,I was concerned at first with the concept but it really turned out well.
    Thanks Bill
