So I was playing with my Dremel and ended up making a Memory Stick housing out of wood that I had laying around. I milled out a cavity for it and added some wood veneer to make it even nicer.

This is my Third Memory Stick Mod.

I keep forgeting to use my camera until after I make something cool, so here is the final picturs only.:duh:

I have plans for another one as soon as I get the wood for it. I want to use something like Birds Eye Maple and something that looks like Tigers Stripes (lots of light and dark wavy lines).

Nice, clean, and simple; now that's a good USB stick. You've inspired me, and now I have a little project for some of the extra wood I have stacked in the garage. :thumb:

@ The_Beast - The one I just did was sanded with 320 grit sand paper and has two coats of Danish Walnut Stain and three coats of paste wax, polished to a high shine (the wax was added after the pictures) and I'm sure I will do something like that again with the next one.

For the birds eye, I'd high gloss lacquer it

It might be a wile before I make the next one, I'm not in a rush to go out and buy the nice wood for it. I might even just veneer a lesser piece of wood. I also know a Doll House store and they have tiny wood details that could look awesome.

Ok, So I have started to gather the things I will need for my next Memory Stick Mod.
I have desided to use Marquetry to decorate it. I have started to assemble panels for each side bit I need to get some inlay and some other Veneer so it will be a wile before there is an update.

    Here is a little taste.:D

This is the Veneer I used.

I printed out these chevrons that I made in AutoCAD.

    DSC01191 by Greg1001001, on Flickr
    They are quite small.

    DSC01192 by Greg1001001, on Flickr
Here is both the front and Back parts, they are not done yet I need to make edges for them.

    DSC01193 by Greg1001001, on Flickr
They were not easy to make and took like 3 Hours for each side.

Here is just a close up, they will look better after they are sanded and lacquered.

I hope you like them, I will post more when I get the inlay.:D

@ Cheapskate - I don't have any, I think I will just use wood veneer with inlay on this memory stick.

This Veneer looks good in the light after it is lacquered so the chevrons really pop and gives a great 3D cube effect. I'm edging it with a lighter wood to hilight it.

    May, 11 Update

Last week I was in Washington D.C. and southern Virginia on vacation so I didn't get to start on the body untill this week and I also had a lot to do around the house.

So I started cutting the wood for the body of the new Memory Stick today and I have new pictures.

The wood split a bit as I tryed to separate the two sides so I'm gluing the crack back together.

Next I will use the Dremal to mill the two sides flat and then start carving out the inside cavity. The next pictures might be a wile as There is a lot of other work I need to do.

    May, 17 Update

I have finished the construction of the new Memory Stick and have more pictures to share with you guys.
I still need to pick a finish for it, ether lacquer or varnish or shellac.
So that will be done at a later date.

    Here are the new pictures:
