Bah, tempted to get one as my netbook is the only one lacking an SSD now, but I can't be arsed changing around my lesser speed SSDs to HTPC and netbook and reinstalling all over again >.<
One word......ARIA. Have you ever had to return anything to aria ? I have thrown away motherboards in the past just so i didnt have to deal with aria returns and the monkeys that work there. My opinion - Buy a crucial M4 128gb from scan, £88 is nothing to be sniffed at, they are an excellent drive and highly recommended on these forums.
im torn now. i need a new GPU - although im waiting for 660Ti or maybe a 670 I need a new case i want an SSD - god dammit i could pull the trigger but i dont think the missus would forgive me for spending £400ish before completing out master bedroom
Second this ^ You won't be able to go back to a mechanical HDD after using an SSd, it's just D: The biggest improvement in usability and 'snappiness' I've ever had from an upgrade, can't extol its virtues enough
Sorely tempted by one of these 240/256GB drives. Overclockers have the Scandisk extreme 240GB model up for £165ish but pre order (08/05/2012). I was thinking of swapping out my current 64GB C300 boot drive with a M4 256GB model as the former is nearly full. I have all my steam games on a seperate 120GB Vertex 2E* so the 256GB drive will be for everything else (minus main documents / pictures etc which are on my NAS). My wife's machine will get a nice boost from the 64GB drive I am sure. The only nagging thought I have though is how cheap will we see the 512GB models go before too long? *This suits me fine as I have most of my main games backed up for install within a few minutes. I only need room for 5-10 games at any one point.
god damn it, only a week or so ago i was looking at SSD's as i was considering a 32gb one for under £40, people on here made me think again as 32 would probably have been too little so have been looking at £64 gb ones for £60-65 (wife is not happy about the increase in money i am pushing for from our budget to get this) and now you have got me looking at the 128gb ones for £88 as it seems rude not to double the size for only £30 more...... my wife is gonna kill me!
It won't be long before the prices really come down for the lower capacity models. Half my reason for my new build is to see what windows and games run like on the SSD drives! No reason to go back to HDD except for storing!
Just seen this thread and immediately went over to scan and placed an order for a second 256GB M4! Fabulous!!!! Was running a little low on my other one, this second one will house my steam and origin games.
Bit silly that a pair of 256 GB drives are so much cheaper than a 512 GB drive ? Apart from a wee drift downwards, they won't drop significantly over the next year, IMHO. dunx
Crucial 128GB on Ebuyer for £88.99 http://www.ebuyer.com/266526-crucial-128gb-2-5-m4-ssd-sata-iii-6gb-s-read-415mb-s-write-175mb-s-ct128m4ssd2
As soon as I saw an Adata 120gb for £84.99 on ebuyer I bought it last week. Will be used as a drive to install more apps.
Just ordered; http://www.scan.co.uk/products/240g...b-s-read-550mb-s-write-520mb-s-83000-iops-max To replace my M4 64gb. Cant bloody wait! Currently using an aging (and failing) WD 1TB Green for my data drive /steam library. Seriously bottlenecking my system! Price was so low I could say no : D
I was always skeptical about these statements, until this morning, I was working on my wife's PC.. which is no slouch (i7-920@3.8GHz - Samsung F3) and my GOD!... boot... gets to desktop, and everything is a pain in the ass for at least 3 minutes! Photoshop seems to take forever to load, and boot times around 1 minute. I can never go back now.
