    Hi all!

Long time reader first time on your forum :)

A few of you might know me from other forum THAT SHALL NOT BE NAMED!

I working on making my own version of this:

It is a "portable" HD encoding rig.

So I am making the same thing using what I have spare and what I can fund in £100 pot.

    Currently I have most things.

I am working on getting a case that will be a Flight Case. The monitor will be in a cut out of one face of the case.

On the side will be a cut out for a Lian Li V351 MicroATX Motherboard Tray.

So any suggestions? I know I have not put everything here yet but will soon. It is mainly on TerminalForums.

    Thanks all!:dremel:

Just bought the Lian Li V351 MicroATX Motherboard Tray from KustomPC.

Got a small 60mm fan and some Blowhole Trim for around the cutout of the monitor.

My main concern would be protecting the screen somehow - how are you going to stop it getting bashed while you're transporting your rig? (i.e. how portable is your "portable" going to be in reality?)

If you're going to be using a flight case, will there be enough room to have a compartment to store the keyboard and mouse? So put the motherboard directly behind the screen, and have a space left over for storage of keyboard, mouse, and other stuff. Just thinking...

I will need either a bag or second case for the cables so they can just go in there.

I am thinking a thick acrylic sheet infront of the monitor to protect it.
Have it in some sort of catch system so I can take it out? Or a sheet of flight case metal that clips over.

If i were you i'd not use an acryllic sheet infront of the screen but something more solid like corrugated aluminium, it'll cost more but it'll have a dual purpose since you "flip it up" and use it to avoid glare from the sun if working outside.
plexi can work but it'll still bend and those four milimeters are gonna be a lifesaver on the inside when you're trying to find a place for everything.

Cool idea :) I'd make a detachable alu panel to protect the screen, maybe something that can be clicked on using small magnets.

At first I wanted to have it so the lid of the case would lift off to have the monitor sunk in the main compartment.

The thing is is that makes it more cramped if I can't find a big case and hard to get open to the components inside.

How about having one side of the case hinged at the bottom so it can lock upwards and protect the screen??

Then you could attach the keyboard to the inside of the same side so it just folds down nicely. Then you only have to carry your mouse

should be getting my Motherboard Tray from KustomPC Wednesday or Thursday for measuring.
That will allow me to look at my options for cases and see what I can and can't do.

Still no sign of the tray. I hope it comes tomorrow so I can get this project under way.

    Okay so got layout planed.

The tray is the perfect size with the monitor.

    Here is how it looks:

I have drawn on this one. Arrows are air hot/cold.

    Old DVD drive is acting as size guide for this;
It is a Antec Easy SATA Hot Swap Hard Drive Caddy with eSATA Port.
I will have a 64GB SSD for boot and software and the hot swap is for disk space to record on.

    Just need a case now.
Going to show measurements in next post.

The current mobo and CPU are a old 755.

    I will be changing to a i5 or i7 when I can.

Also £250 is a tad too much for the case :p

    Might be making my own.

I have been quoted £120 from Swanflight.com for the case.

I think it is quite a good pricefor a custom one?
